Retro Carry

DMark

Recommended Posts

I shot an IDPA Bug Gun match several weeks ago with my Dad's Old Model 36. I had forgotten just how easy to carry a S&W J-Frame is.

SO......., Tracked down this Model 37 AirWeight and after a couple of Retro Mods (T-Grip, Bobbed Hammer, Smooth Trigger Face) and an action job, I'm back to the future with the 1968 made S&W. Carry ammo is Buffalo Bore standard pressure 158gr Soft Lead SWCHP-Hard Cast. This weapon is an easy POA-POI out to seven yards.

DISCLAIMER: DON'T WORRY -NO ORIGINAL PARTS WERE MODDED IN THE MAKING OF THIS CARRY WEAPON!

.... How does it feel weight wise compared to the newer models?

The all steel Model 36 is 19oz. The Airweight Model 37 with its alloy frame is 12.5oz. Both are light, but you can really feel the difference between the two. Odd, but sometimes I notice the BlackBerry on my hip more than the 37. Might be the better holster for the 37. :shake:

Recoil with the Buffalo Bore is a hard push with the 36 and a sharp snap with the 37. These early Airweights are not +P rated.

The beauty of the blueing on this Smith & Wesson is what inspired acquiring, accumulating, or collecting handguns for many of us. Tactical black, Stainless Steel, Camo, and Polymer may have their place, but it is very hard to deny that the deep blued finish on this firearm is absolutely beautiful!

I agree.

A couple of years ago I realized that I didn't have a single Blue Steel S&W other than my Dad's ole' 36.

I sat out to fix that and now have....., Ugggg...., Welllllll..., Hmmmm..., A Lot. ;)
