"TV Cop Shows" are just laughable to me. I don't even watch them anymore, because I can't stop making fun (and irritating the friends/family that are actually trying to watch). It's pretty funny when someone (whom the audience is supposed to identify as knowledgeable in the realm of firearms, etc.) blatantly mishandles a weapon, or mis-identifies it to the point of hilarity...

"He would have pulled the trigger, but the safety was engaged... here." <--- as the TV Detective/Officer racks the slide (with the safety supposedly engaged, already, and then places his finger on the trigger after racking the slide, then proceeds to squeeze the trigger, and nothing happens, even though you hear a *clink*, which I assume is supposed to be the safety "doing its job"... :koolaid: X100... ) I just want to write to some of these people (act of futility) just to ask exactly what is going on here, and to point out scenarios like the one mentioned. "If the safety was doing its job, there wouldn't be any noise whatsoever from that gun."

Where do they get advisors/tech people for these shows? "I saw that it was done this way on Fall Guy one time when I was 13, so I figured we'd just do that on our show..."

I was going to mention this several days ago on another thread, but since you brought it up again...

I HATE it on these dumb tv shows and movies when the cops (plain clothes, detectives, etc.) get a call and then 1) rack the slide in the car when they are speeding off to the location, 2) then rack again when they skid to a stop and jump out at the location, 3) then rack again when they are in the stair well, 4) and then finally rack again when they confront the bad guy and yack for a few minutes...THEN, to make it really plain they are really really serious, they THEN rack the slide...AGAIN!

must have been a glock.....

:koolaid:

Another favorite is the semi-auto pistol running out of bullets, followed by a *click click click click* of the "cop" continuing to pull the trigger over and over.

Well I wouldn't immediately rush to call them ignorant on guns. Truth be told, the real stuff isn't all dramatic and action packed. They have to spice it up a bit, even if that includes completely ignoring the facts.

Well I highly recommend the hbo series the wire if anyone wants a realistic cop show. Very nicely done I hold a criminal justice degree from etsu and can vouch for the reality of the show. In 5 seasons the cops one the show may have drawn their weapons 4 times?

I always get a laugh from chase scenes. You hear the gears change a dozen times when accelerating from a stop and tires "squealing" even when the car is on dirt.

Or for the cops that carried wheel guns, would allways open the cylinder to see if it was loaded, like Barney Fife....lol...You know they havent fired their guns in years, why would the all of a sudden,be empty??? maybe the bullett fairy stole them all....??? ;)

Anyone remember "21 Jump Street"? I just watched the first 3 seasons at work (:tinfoil:) and their handling was atrocious. However, their choice of firearms is excellent. Nickel plated Hi-Powers, numerous revolvers, and 1911's. One of the early shows even had a discussion about Ioki's new fangled HK. It was an interesting dialogue about new gun tech used the name brands and everything!

And they lose the same hub cap three times.

Was watching a sequal to the remake of "Walking Tall" the other day (yes I did die a little bit inside but I watched anyway). The villan had an 8" S&W 500 Magnum. Guy might have been 160 lbs soaking wet and was shooting the thing one handed with no recoil or muzzle flip.

But then it was a sequel to the REMAKE of Walking Tall ... oh yeah, starring the guy who played Hercules. I'm sure I'm not the only one who saw it, just the only one who'll admit to it.

Lots of little things here and there drive me nuts on TV when it comes to firearms and vehicles. I had been watching Sons of Anarchy alot up until the last episode of the season. Several things in there drove me crazy, but one of the main ones was Edmond got his handgun out of a hidden spot in the bathroom to kill the ATF agent. What bothered me was a detail that they could have left completly out of the episode and everything would have been fine. Edmond check the magazine to make sure the gun was loaded. In the end it turned out the gun had blanks in it. How can you be in the business of firearms like he is, and not know that your gun has blanks in it when you look at the rounds. They could have left the detail of him checking the mag out of the show and it wouldn't have bothered folks like me.

I seem to find something done wrong in every show I watch when it comes to vehicles and firearms. Kinda makes me wish that I didn't know much at all about either subject, so that things like that wouldn't ruin a show for me.

My biggest pet peeve (all of the above included also) is Denzel Washington limp wristing, flip flopping every gun I have ever seen him hold. Credit given for him keeping his finger off the trigger but after ALL the movies he has done using guns, why hasn't someone taught him to hold a gun correctly? Like others, this makes me not enjoy watching.

I watch CSI's just to make fun of and correct them. THAT is my entertainment!
