I'm looking for cheap .308 ammo. Has anybody had personal experience with Bear ammo or does anyone have good recomendation for some who enjoys sending several bullets down the range? Please don't recommend 7.62 nato. mil surp.

Cheap and .308 is a bit of an oxymoron. Never tried the bear ammo, but I have heard good things about it, was planning on picking some of their 7.62X39 and giving it a shot.

The bear 7.62x39 has never given me a problem.

I have shot some of the B/B ammo in .223 without any issues. I even put a couple of coyotes down with some back in the summer.

Brown Bear ammo is good stuff. You won't win any accuracy competitions with it, but it is great stuff for shooting and plinking.

I shot some brown bear 55gr fmj .223 back around labor day and it was as accurate as any other 55gr that I had at 50 yards and 100 yards.

Isn’t that Bear ammo lacquered coated steel case?

Yes, the Brown Bear is lacquer coated steel. Silver Bear is zinc coated, and the Golden Bear is brass coated. All are made by Barnaul.

It is steel cased but you can get either lacquer or polymer coated(in 7.62x39 not sure about other calibers).

I bought a 1000 sight unseen because I didn't have any .308 laying around to speak of and it was a decent price. My first range trip was disappointment as the first round stuck in the chamber (homebuilt FAL). Managed to get the bolt jacked back and the case ejected. Tried it again, same thing. Put it away for the rest of the day.

Later I checked everything over and couldn't find anything wrong so I cranked the gas way down and tried it again. Functioned perfect! I had been shooting a little surplus ammo and some WW white box in brass cases. I noticed the recoil of the Brown bear was less and felt under powered, so I guess that's the reason it wouldn't run at the same setting as the other ammo.

I've also heard some of the belt fed guys complaining about the steel case and some of them actual spray a bit of lube on the cases just before firing.
