Dobervol, I like how my 556 feels when folded but I've never tried to fire it that way.

Maybe next weekend. I saw a couple of 556's at Academy in Cool Springs on Thursday.

On the pistol caliber carbine route, any recommendations? Experience with the Beretta Storm?

on pistol calibers you can get MP5 clones for under $1500. also I 've seen TDI Kriss for around 16-1700. M1 Carbine is really good choice, and you can find them used for super cheap.

Mark, I've never bought a gun from Academy (although I bought an unfired gun from a guy who originally bought it there a couple years ago); what kind of price did they have on the 556s? How do their prices run in general, in compared to gun shop prices in mid-TN? I love some of the gun shop guys, and they're great people, but I'd feel like a total goob if I found a gun for $100-200 less at a Dick's or Academy than what I just paid elsewhere.

I got a Mini-14 with the folding stock from the factory. Like six hundred bucks. Put a hundred dollar scope on it and I LOVE the gun. Just my :screwy:

Dobervol, I didn't pay close attention to the prices as I'm not in the market right now. The guy did read them to me and I remember thinking that they were in line.

I try to buy from locally owned gun stores when I can but in the end all problems go back to the manufacturer anyway so if academy had it and the price was right I would probably pull the trigger.

I think they had 2 regular 556's and one classic swat. At least that is what they looked like from across the counter. Sometimes the Sig designations can be a bit confusing on the 556.
