AR question.

I have a 20 inch upper with rifle length handguard and gas tube. I was wondering if I could change the rifle length handguard and gas tube to a midlength handguard and gas tube. I want to shorten the handguard but I wanted to make sure I could do this before I go messing up things and that it would function properly if I could. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Thats what I didn't want to do but wasn't really for sure if I had to replace the barrel or not. Thanks Kegger.

Kegger's right. The barrel has a hole in it where the gas port sits. You could theoretically plug the one hole and drill another, but it would be cheaper and easier to just get a carbine length barrel.
