Eek! A scratch! Everybody Panic!

Recommended Posts

So I got back from shooting yesterday and discovered a four inch scratch right down the side of the slide of my XDM. ;):cry:It doesn't feel deep but I can see silver which makes me think it got through the finish. Does anybody know of a way I can buff, paint, or polish it away? I took a cloth and some light oil to it last night but that didn't really look like it helped.

Reminds me of the day I got a brand-spanking new, american-made Stratocaster. Being the over-exuberant tweaker that I am I immediately begin to take off the pickguard to check out the insides. Screwdriver slips and takes a big ol' chip out of the finish right on the front of the guitar. Under 30 seconds from unboxing to chipped.

I feel your pain. I'm trying to live with some "dumb-*** scratches" on my AR build. It's rough. Hope you get it figured out.

My cousin told me to use fine grit sandpaper, go with the grain & only one direction & it will remove the light scrathes from stainless steel, he does all my guns !!

Is this the technique to REMOVE scratches, or as nightrunner suggested, is this in order to scratch it up more? :D How fine a grit is he suggesting? I would think to not make it look worse you be using probably 1500 grit or something like that? Really fine...
