I get you. The painting orange thing is just weird. Cops can usually also be recognized by the uniform, and the big, rolling billboard with screaming siren and lights that they show up in, too. I'm just saying if that little badge causes someone who is about to shoot you (as a HCP) to pause, it would be worth the ridicule that is handed out in heaping doses on this board.

I wouldn't even say usually. There are off duty cops, undercover cops, and detectives who don't go uniformed.

If it were ONLY about us and how we act as law abiding citizens, it would be fine. But it's not JUST about us and how we act as there are idiots out there who would seek to use a badge inappropriately.

I don't need a badge to defend myself and I think it is detrimental to advertise that I'm armed or unarmed. LEO's need a badge to say, "I'm here to enforce the laws...that's my job." We have very different roles and it is foolish for us to allow any confusion that could cause us to be viewed as a LEO when we're not.

I guess what I'm really trying to say is that I've read a few of these threads on here, and everyone seems to pile on for no good reason, and that seems juvenile to me.

That’s one possibility. Here’s another… if you are in the presence of bad guys committing a crime that badge may get you shot. You would just need to decide which scenario would be more likely.

No one is ridiculing the OP as he is asking for opinions. That isn’t without good reason and doesn’t seem juvenile to me. It is the exchange of information he asked for.

guys, honestly everyone here knows how I feel about open carry. I think any kind of "UNAUTHORIZED" Identification is a bad Idea. Yes, it has and can lead to arrests in the right circumstances.

Wearing a HCP badge makes about as much sense as painting the end of your assault pistol orange and walking around in public with it strapped over your shoulder.

If the state had wanted us to have one they would have issued it to us.

It just had to be the time I got there late, so I didn't see the beginning.

Something about DanO fireing a full auto & the "range officer" very well didn't like it along with his blackpowder buddies.

The guy was pissed at TGO the rest of the day.

As he was talkin to a small group of TGO folks David looks at him serious as hell & ask "so what department you with?"

He was kinda speachless for a sec & said it was the one & only HCP badge!!

We were all bout to die, but had to keep it all in for the moment.

It was great like I said you just had to see it!

They're real. There's even a HCP school here in Middle Tennessee that not only offers them during class, but pretty adamantly encourages them.

1st...I've seen the guy at Academy with the badge and buying tons of ammo, ask Moody.

2nd..I've seen the actual badge at Greene Military here in Donleson.

FWIW...I'm in complete agreement about these things. I was just speaking of the ordinary citizen who lives in a small city, like I do, where we don't have a lot of undercover types. You know, the kind where nothing ever happens...mostly because 70% of the folks there have a HCP, an if they don't, their house is like the armory at a military base. All of the LEO's I know wear their badge when off duty, but it is as concealed as their handgun. No one shows it, unless absolutely necessary. I was not talking about strapping on a HCP badge and open carrying a .357 with a 8" barrel while visiting the crack house...

Why not? You do it that way, and you never have to pay for your crack. Plus, the drug dealers usually have some guns you can conviscate and usually you can get a wad of cash. Believe me, they won't suspect a thing. They'll just be glad you didn't arrest them.

I wear mine on a chain like dog the bounty hunter, cept I get to carry a real gun and not some mace spray.

It helps complete the look if you wear high waisted tight jeans with a tucked in tight t shirt.

If I had a three wolf shirt I would not need the badge.
