Rear sight moves?

Recommended Posts

I've got a Springfield 1911 with Novak sights. The rear sight has a set screw that's supposed to keep it from moving around. However, after a few mags, the set screw will work itself loose and a gentle tap will easily throw my rear sight off alignment. What are some things I can look at to stop this?

Loctite?

Teflon tape?

Get a new rear sight?

Red loctite. The red is really strong.

+1 use this on all my scope rings.

No, No, use blue. I think the red is permanant.

+1 Use red only if you're sure you never want to move it again. Blue is what most people use for scope rings.

Start with the blue. If it doesn't work you can always try something stronger.

Blue might work just fine. But the slide takes all the beating and I have had no trouble breaking the red free when I needed to do so. FWIW.
