Anbody out there shooting a "magnum" load of (3) 60 grain pyrodex pellets in their .54 cal. muzzel loader???

I have heard of folks using 3 50 grain pellets in a .50 cal. for a "magnum" load...but i'am really unsure with my Knight in-line...don't want it to go ka-boom...ka-split  if you know what i mean!!!

Thought if it would be safe, it would be a good "hot" bear/hog load, as i shot a 200 lb. 8 pointer opening day of muzzel loading season and with just using 2 60 grain pellets, it did not penetrate through the off-side rib cage.

He still only ran about 50 yards and fell DRT!!!

The Knight shoots very accurate w/ 2 60 grain pellets, and i don't know if it would really gain me anything...except maybe a sore shoulder. lol!!!

Anybody got any thoughts... would be greatly apperciated.

Thanks....Bearman

I am not real familiar with pellets but in the powders BP more is just more, a lot of times all will not burn. If the 2/60 gr works well for you I think that would be plenty. What I would look at is the type of bullet. You can get bullets that have a different tip for larger game. I know they use a heavier grain bullet with a special tip in Africa for big game animals. I would try that before the gun killing on both ends and your gun may not be able to handle that large of a load.

Kinda what i was thinking also, Red Eagle. I'am using Powerbelt hp bullets in 348 gr. and man, they are accurate in my Knight rifle! So maybe the muzzel loader "magnum" myth is just that...a myth! ;)

I think i'll just stick with accuracy loads over magnum loads for now in the big bore .54 cal.Knight rifle. Sure hate they went under though.

Thanks for your help, Red Eagle

if you shoot long range and need more distance you could try 150gr. i have a encore prohunter and 150gr is the max you can shoot in it. i shot an 8pt opening day of muz last year with 300gr SST hornady and 100gr 777 the inlet hole was as big as my thumb, the outlet was as big as my fist, pretty awesome expansion!! i just saw you are from gainesboro, i hunt in granville on eagle mountain. small world!

My82cam, I hunt across the river from Granville some, on the wma, have not killed anything there...so i concentrate most of my efforts on private land.

Not really looking for extra range as much as a "harder hitting" load for thicker hide and bone. I'am just not sure the Knight will handle the 3 pellet load which will total 180 grains (60 grains each) of the 3 pyrodex pellets.

So,now,i know who it is doing all that shooting over there across the river

Heave the lead!!!
