I am a retard!! I kept putting off renewing my HCP until today. It expired yesterday and i figured that i would go in and pay the $50 and they would spit out a new one. Was i wrong. The woman made me feal like a criminal and had a THP officer come and make me surrender my old permit. Now I have to wait 60 to 90 days to get my new one in the mail. It was almost embarrassing. I would have understood if it was a month expired but one day? Oh well it is my fault and i have to deal with it. She also told me that i had no choice but to get a new picture because the state was starting a new facial reconization system and i asked if the DL's will also be in it and she said it was only for HCP holders. To me it seems they would do the DL's because almost everyone has one and any with a HCP has a DL. Oh well like i said it is one of those little lessons i have learned in my 32 years and thought i would pass it on.

I don't think so. If he had renewed the day it expired or earlier then, yes it would have.

TN allows you to renew your permit up to 6mos after it has expired (I think) without going through the class again. But if you let it expire, it stay's expired until you get your new permit.

At least that is my understanding.

no offense, but it does say on the state website that if you let it expire, you have to go through the whole process again.

No, it does not. If you renew before your expiration and your permit expires before you get the new one, then the receipt acts as your permit. But if you renew after you expire, then you are "permitless" until you receive your new one.

And I agree with goomba. A rule is a rule. If you knew that then you should have renewed sooner, even a day sooner, and you wouldn't be in this situation.

Personally I have an aunt that is mentally challenged and no I dont find if offensive in the context in which it was intended. Second, I dont think this is the platform to pick that battle...but thats just my two cents and you cant have a refund.

Got my renewal letter in the mail today, no check box for 'duplicate' permit. Maybe that is something they only do in person. I plan to mail it in. I HATE to go to DMV. It is so demeaning and time consuming. Besides, they get real upset if the see your gun. Did you know you are not supposed to carry in the USA? (Sorry for the sarcasm, but the DMV get me worked up. Worse that the Post Office. Not the people, just the place).

I know at the one near me, it's posted. So you may want to check. That may be why they don't like seeing your gun.
