.45-70 "Flesh Wound"

Oh Shoot

Recommended Posts

I guess this is all legit, I keep seeing it on other forums, and is generally attributed to this originating thread, can't find any previous one:

Shot with a 45-70 - 24hourcampfire

Caught my eye, since recent talk of shooting .45-70's out at Norris (which I missed), but my apologies should this turn out to be some sort of hoax...

------------------------

"This guy and a buddy were sighting their rifles in. One of the guns was leaned up against the 4 wheeler he was standing on. The gun started to fall and I'm not sure if his buddy grabbed it, or something on the bike caught the trigger. Either way, he caught a 325 grain .45-70 round right under the collar bone. I think it goes with out being said, how lucky he is to still be here.

The big hole around his shoulder blade is where the bullet entered and it traveled under his skin and exited right there on his neck, above his spinal cord! Just goes to show that he truly is LUCKY! The ballistic tip mainly just burned the edges of the skin of the wound that you see in the picture. He's getting better & better every day, last night he was even doing push ups!! He's finally able to use his arm again! Somehow it didn't hit anything major and basically ended up being a really bad flesh wound! It is truly a miracle that he is alive and not paralyzed!"

And let that be a lesson to all you TGOers out there: You need to sell me all of your weapons at a really cheap price. They are dangerous and the loss of profits shall be your just desserts for your misgivings.

I actually had a patient with a similar, if not exact wound.

It's actually a heartwarming Christmas story. It was my first job as an RN. I was working in the ER in a rural community 50 miles east of Nashville on Christmas Eve. I had just come on duty when there was a knock on the Emergency Room door. When I opened the door there was a man and his grandson-in-law holding each other up. The older man had a large wound in his chest, and his shirt was soaked in blood. The younger man had a large gash on his forehead and was also covered in blood. I immediately brought them in and we began treating them and the story unfolded as to "How this happened".

It seems there was a family gathering and after much drinking of moonshine and partaking of various other chemicals an arguement erupted (the subject of which neither could remember). But at some point grampa called the younger man a "Son-of-a-bitch" and proceeded to hit him in the head with a fire poker. After the poker strike, the grandson-in-law grabbed the shotgun off the wall and shot grampa in the chest at point blank range. They then got in the truck and drove to the hospital together (granson-in-law drove because grampa was too drunk).

The cool thing was grampa's wound. It was about 5cm in diameter and had a cavity that extended just under the skin that you could put your hand in and feel around, even feeling the shot in there. It seem that grampa was rather obese and had his 20 gauge loaded with bird shot (hand loaded I might add). The shot hit his sternum but could not penetrate and instead made the coolest wound I've ever seen.

The heartwarming part is that after all this, they both declined to press charges because they loved each other and were, after all, family.

I can't make this stuff up.

Thanks for pointing out that obesity is not always a bad thing :screwy:
