The glory of the Bean

I just finished a couple of big bowls of slow, all day simmered pinto beans. I have to tell you they were great. Few things in life bring as much reward as the pinto bean. High in fiber, which keeps the whole pump out line clear of, well stuff I'm sure it needs to be kept clear of. They are also high in protein which is the building block of muscle. And lastly they just taste good. Now I have to say, my wife wishes I hadn't eaten so many beans, as she is sure at some point she will be punished for preparing them for me. So as you sit at your keyboards, reading this and asking yourself why is he pontificating on the lowly pinto bean? Why, you ask. Because I am totally bored to tears. I may also be just a touch . Regardless, bean up my second amendment loving friends. Bean up and reap the benefits. ( And don't forget to pull the covers over your wifes head, later on. This is always good for some holliday laughs. ) Merry Christmas, TGO. :D

Merry Christmas back robin48. And to everyone on TGO.

Some of my happiest memories were back about 35 years ago. My wife and I were renting a house with no heat except our woodstove. We'd put a pot of beans on the woodstove in the morning and when we got home from work, dinner was ready. A nice simple time in my life.

The very things that are on the menu for an early AM start, slow cook all day, got a nice Heavenly Ham hock to go with, along with plenty Konebread.:)

Mighty good stuff it is....

You are not bean  alone, however I have to and prefer to make my own.....wife not so crazy about such but then eats plenty...?

I'm pretty sure the "you make it much better" stuff is just to get me to cook.....but that is OK too.:D

My regrets will be having two man-sized boys around for the after effects.

I rise to second the gentleman's motion. It is tough, indeed, to beat a bowl or two of slooooooow cooked pinto beans and a fresh skillet of cornbread. For the washdown, a tall glass of sweet tea, or even better, ice cold skim milk.

( And don't forget to pull the covers over your wifes head, later on. This is always good for some holliday laughs. )

My wife loves the 'ol "Dutch oven" treatment. She'll say she hates it......but she doesn't. :D

I like lentils myself, and sometimes black beans. After they've softened I throw about 3/4 of the pot into a blender (but not all at once...I did that one time and was cleaning liquified beans off the ceiling) and whip them up. I'll also simmer some tomatoes, garlic and whatever kind of meat I've got laying around in chicken stock, then add that into the mix. Beans and lentils are great for survival food storage, too.

Ever notice how everyone else's farts always smell way worse than your own? I mean, you can let one go and think "wow that's pretty impressive", but anyone else does it and you think "Oh my God, where's the closest exit"

Hmmm...makes me wonder...does anyone know the medical science behind this phenomenon? Inquiring minds would realy like to know. I don't mean why do you get gas, I wonder why yours always smell worse than mine?

By-product of digestion. And you get used to your own.

I don't know, if that's the case, I must get used to mine really quickly (because they're not all the same) and I never get used to yours. There must be more to it than that.

I know a couple of weeks ago I thought I was going to have to abandon my truck at 65 mph.

No.. There was shear pride going on in the cab of that truck! I bet there was a smile on his face too. Perfection. Why let it escape.

Love those beans with a few hamhocks or a big ole ham bone and cornbread. Mmmmm

I think it got into the foam in my Sig case. Every time I go to the range and open the case my eyes start watering and I can't hit a bull in the ass with a brass fiddle
