I just got out of a class (I'm a college prof.) where we spoke about "the power of language." I used lots of examples like "augmentation/escalation," "pro-life/pro-choice," etc... But all these DEIMOS shows us work as well.

DEIMOS make a very good point. The language used frames the debate. If you start using the other side's language, you are automatically weakened.

Also remember that language tends to distort or exaggerate as well. I know of no "pro-gun" person who does not advocate strong laws against bad guys having guns, but that is often drowned out in the rhetoric. "Pro-gun" is often seen as "pro-crime." This is not the case and should not be the case.

Along with language, other issues influence the perception of the non-gun owning public about the rest of us. Ever walk into a gun store you have never been in before and feel out of place and unwelcome? Imagine how it must feel to a total newbie to walk into that store. Ever been to a meeting of the local gun club and take a look at the average member? Middle-aged or older, male, white, etc... The entire industry and community must do a better effort at projecting a better/more accurate image of the average American gun owner and the industry we are all a part of. This starts with language, but includes much more.

Well, I seem to be getting off on a rant here, so I will stop.

Everyone enjoy your weekend! Happy and safe shooting.
