And it's not a gun!

A few months ago I pretty much gave up Diet Coke cause I'm scared of the Nutrasweet and actually had some ill effects because of it.

So I got a Pur water filter and for the most part now I just drink water.

The water that comes out of that thing is great. It is better than most of the bottled water out there. When people come over to my house and drink water they even comment on how good it is.

And if you ever saw water in a whole house filter you would never drink unfiltered water again.

This one

PUR FM-4100 3 Stage Vertical Faucet Mount with Filter Black

It puts out some darn good water for the price.

I like the cooler deals but we have a small apartment. The Pur works great. I love me some water too.

I love mine as well. Regular tap water seems to taste and smell like swimming pool water compared to filtered. Saves money over bottled water as well.

Use it for your coffee and tea as well. I have a lab grade RO/DI filter for my saltwater aquarium. Nearly pure H2O and it makes the best coffee/tea. I also make some homemade wine from time to time and it makes a HUGE difference with my wines.

I have a pur picture model. I really like it but when I cook sometimes we us unfiltered water that model seems like it would work a lot better.

Yeah I forgot to mention we cook and coffee with the filtered water and it makes a HUGE difference. Rice and noodles are much better that way, coffee as well.

Yeah, I've used one of those for years now, I don't pretend it actually removes all the possible baddies, but does make the water quite palatable.

Like OP, I avoid aspartame for the most part too -- Diet Rite and Diet RC are about the only common dopes out there lately that use sucralose, so I keep some of those around, too.

Something else that has been on the "Need to get list" for too long.

I am more of a tea guy, but my kid critters are big water lovers, time to adjust that list.

I will save my scientific and experienced opinion to myself. I worked for the leading water filtration company in the country, and then I reformed, got educated and licensed, and worked for a water treatment plant. All I can say to those of you that use a RO system is please don't drink a first draw from the RO tap. Flush it first. There is nothing beyond the final RO filter in the way of chlorine, and bacteria love to grow in plastic (re: Quest) piping. It's a double whammy.

FWIW, I sold my parents a softener when I worked for that company, and I WILL have one in my home when I re-plumb, but I will NOT have a RO system.

What does RO mean?

reverse osmosis. It is a pressurized water filtration method that removes 99% of the impurities in water. It is so "clean" that it will not conduct electricity. This is due to the lack of natural mineral content after the filtration process. It also lacks chlorine, which means there is nothing to protect against bacteriological growth in the plastic piping and tap apparatus that is always used.
