Sentry safe questions

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I happened across a Sentry safe today. It needs some work. The interior is missing and the cover over the inside of the door is gone. I believe that there are some components or linkage pieces missing from the lock mechanism, but I haven't looked it over too closely yet. Are there any Sentry owners here that may have, or be willing to take, a picture of the lock mechanism of their door? I'd really appreciate it.

HOME DEPOT sell those safe !!!!

Yes, they do. I believe they can also be found at sporting good stores, and possibly Tractor Supply. The problem is, those safes have a cover panel over the inside of the door, and the stores probably wouldn't let me remove it just to see what parts I might need.

If your point is that I do not have a high quality fire safe, you would be correct. However, I couldn't argue with the price (free), and I intend to fortify this unit quite a bit. I have a free cheap safe, I have a bunch of free scrap steel, and I know how to run a welder. I've thought about doing this exact thing for quite some time, but never did it because I didn't want to spend any money on a cheap safe, only to find myself destroying it if it didn't work out. Considering my cost basis this far into the project, I'm willing to give it a try.

Why type of lock is it? Electronic or combo? I have an electronic, but they are probably pretty close.

It's a mechanical combination, but it appears the lock unit itself only attaches to the door with four screws. I would guess the electronic version attaches the same way, and mounts up to the linkage the same. I could be wrong, though.

If you need more or better pics, let me know.

Awesome, the pictures were just what I needed. I really appreciate it. Did your safe have a panel over that stuff, or is it exposed? Mine has that part exposed, but I thought the cover was simply missing.
