Guys, I was digging through my crate of gun related garage sale items, and found a "tune up" kit that I forgot to install. Does anyone have any experience in replacing the striker spring on a Ruger M77 mkII? It looks like the bolt assembly is under pressure, so I don't wont to kill myself on this one.

I once took the bolt down on my M77/22 Hornet and let me tell you....

Unless I have to, I'll not do that again. Taking it down is easy, but once

you got to putting it back in it has to be cocked again to align the bolt sections up right. It was a monster to get back cocked with my bare hands...

I have a Ruger M77 in .223 with a heavy barrel, but I've not looked at the bolt too close. It's a safe queen.

All I can tell you is if it is like the 77/22 Hornet (center fire) it is not much fun.

Here is the owners manual for the M77/II series, It tells you how to take the firing pin assembly out. But then tells you it is not intended to come apart. As it may fly apart if taken down....Hummm...

I say leave well enough alone, It's no fun hunting pieces of a gun all over the house ( I know )

If you have seen the Mauser military rifles with the steel "hole" in the stock, it was for compressing the firing pin spring for reassembly. Maybe you could make something similar to do your Ruger?
