I am considering using silver bear ammo. Anyone have any cheap ammo recommendations?

I am also going to mount an eotech and magnifier so I need a good mount/rail.

I'm all ears.

My son has a CETME, so I'll pass this along:

Steel case ammo is good - the fluted chamber beats brass to death, so don't expect to reload, anyway. He used Brown Bear with no problems.

HK/G3 mags are cheap (as little as 99 cents) and plentiful, and work better than the original mags in most CETME's. My son has no problem with either, although a 5 rnd CETME mag from SOG had problems.

I have a PTR-91 (HK91 clone), so I've done some research on this.

WARNING:

The CETME does not accept some HK91 parts, so you will want to double-check before buying any HK parts or accessories!! If in doubt, contact the manufacturer. Please double-check my work so you don't get anything that doesn't fit.

Compatibility list:

Cetme Parts

--------

robertrtg.com has a lot of parts/accessories. One of these is the CETME spare parts pack (with or without rollers).

hkparts.net also has a wide selection, as does Scorpion Arms.

A great resource for the best price on accessories and such is this thread over at the HKPro forum:

HKPRO Forums: Price Watch

--------

Some folks over at the HKPro.com forums love the Russian steel-case ammo (like Brown Bear) for its price. For other surplus, I check two sites: ammoengine.com and this thread: RIFLE-COMPANY.COM: The cheapest 7.62x51mm Surplus on the Internet.

Like ttocswob said, the roller-locked delayed blowback system is violent and rough on brass. The addition of an ejection port buffer will make this less of a problem if you want to reload brass.

I bought one from hkportbuffer.com but have not used it yet. I do NOT know if this one works on the CETME, although the POF ejection port buffer is supposed to (shown at the top of this page: HK91 Port Buffer and Carry Handle for HK 91, G3, PTR91, HK93, HK33, and CETME (RTG Gun Parts).

--------

As far as mounts, I have heard good things about this one. The site claims it works on the CETME: MFI HK MP5 / G3 Low Profile Scope Mount

A lot of people also use the HK STANAG claw mount, which should work on the CETME as well.

Hope this helps! Sorry if it's too much info, didn't mean to overwhelm you.
