I swore I would not go back into Best Buy due to past experiences and the Thanksgiving add deal...butttttt.

My computer crapped out on me, and I wanted a good computer that didn't come with a disgusting price tag. Guess who had em....yep...Best Buy.

They have an ASUS brand desktop for $649. The thing is gigantic...and I mean huge. But, it rocks!! I built the same system at Dell, but with only a 220 watt power supply, and it was over $1300. Man I am diggin this thing.

Now, off to CHMR (owl hollow) to be a member for 2010.

My wife bought an Asus laptop. I had never heard of them but they get very high marks, especially in customer support. I'd say you did fine.

You get what you pay for. There's a reason they are cheap.

There is NOTHING wrong with Asus products, they make awesome computer components that I have been using in builds for several years

Yup have to agree Asus products are top notch. That is not to say that they dont have their value line products. Even those are pretty good though.

Doesn't Ford make different grades of pick-up trucks, (F150, F250, F350, etc), and do they not charge more for higher grades?

Same thing goes with computer parts and everything else for that matter. Devices are designed for work-load expectations, and you pay for what you get.

have you ever built a PC? I in all honesty have put together over 100, even the value line of Asus is much better than most of what ever else is out there. $649.00 for a Desktop computer these days will buy you all that you need. What do you need a Super duty computer for anyway? I am sure that his $649.00 Asus will serve him just fine and that he will get what he paid for :)

Look at the specs, this is one heck of a machine

I've built a few systems and always used ASUS motherboards. Never had a problem with them.

I have always used ASUS motherboards as well. They seem to be of quality construction, and as that is arguably the single most important part of your computer...I'd say they probably could figure out how to make a decent system...and I would gladly pay 649 for one.

Generally true, yes, there are usually several grades in computer components as I stated. But again, Asus value line products are still pretty good. The price difference between the value line and the higher end - comparing spec for spec is negligible. Most companies shoot for the higher end with the 3+year warranty.

I also worked at Dell for 7 years until a few months ago when Dell sold our facility to a 3rd party vendor, (Lebanon) Dell uses many Asus products in there computers, I build my own desk top's and have used Asus MB's and never had a problem, I could have built a better computer cheaper but that's me. I think the OP will be happy with his new Asus and not to bad of a price!!!! COOP

True, Asus makes some of the components in Dell and HP, and others: however, that does not mean that they are all made the same.

Do you really think that you can get a $1,000 computer for $250? :)

Been building my own comps since I was 14. I used to be a die hard Asus guy, until I got a string of about 4 boards that just didnt want to work. Asus CS support was bad on top of that, and I ended up just RMA'ing the boards and switched to MSI, whom I havent had any trouble out of. Another gripe I've had with them is their website loads extremely slow. Gigabyte is another I've used with good results. However, since I game on my PC above all else, I'm not buying a budget line board either, so that may have had something to do with it.

I had a similar experience a few years back.
