Shooting area other than Ranges?

If there isn't an actual shooting range anywhere near me, what are the laws(if any) about going out and shooting somewhere away from any nearby houses/buildings? Like going out on someones farm, out on a lake bank(shooting into a bank of course) or something like that? The closest actual range to me that I know of is probably a good 45 minutes away, so once I finally get my gun, It would be nice not to have to drive 45minutes or more just to practice with it. Anyone know anything about this?

As long as you're not inside of any city limits (or next to a new subdivision filled with a bunch of ass-hats), are on private land and have the owner of said land's consent, you're good to go.

I wish I had a range as close as 45 minutes away.

Sevier Indoor Range shouldn't be too far from you is it? I wouldn't imagine more than 45 minutes away?

sometimes it is nice having a range 50 feet from my front door. :D

that said I would rather drive the 35 minutes to Norris to shoot

I have two ranges within about a 10-15 minute drive. So.... do I have time to shoot all the time.....? What do you think?

It takes me over an hour to get to SIR and I've tried a couple of different routes. Where I live in Motown is probably about the most distant point from Sevierville that you can be and still be in Morristown.

As far as shooting goes away from a range, make sure you have permission to be on the property. Be safe. Clean up your trash. I wouldn't shoot close to buildings even if they are uninhabited. The world has changed and it is often hard to find a place to just do some shooting. There may be a nearby gravel pit or old quarry in the area. I go through Tazwell pretty often on my way to the Blue Grass State.

You can't shoot casually on the nearby WMR as much as it makes sense to use public property for recreation.

Oh, Sorry...That sucks. I know I can get to BPS in about 1 1/2hrs, but I am not quite sure how close/far away from there is SIR, so I suppose it would take probably close to over an hour.

I got a pretty good place in mind. My Uncle(his dad actually) owns a big piece of land, out away from town, and i'm sure I could find a good bank to shoot into around there. Thanks for the input guys.
