Guys, could I have some help please? I have a S&W Model 41 with a 5 1/2'' barrel that was bought by my father before he passed away and I've never shot it. Not looking to sell or trade; just want to know how to identify the year it was made. I'm not familiar with the method that was used. The serial # begins with A******. Can you help? I'd very much appreciate any information. Thanks.

Write S&W with the serial number.

They began using the"A" prefix at serial #A115001 in 1970. Then went to "TAA" prefix in 1984. This will narrow it down a little for you.

Go to Barns and Noble or Books a Million and look it up in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson.

I just did that for him! If you like Smiths that book is well worth the purchase price.
