President Obama's Nobel Prize Remarks

Reagan is remembered for what he accomplished and his many flubs are forgotten. The best example would be his sound check where he jokingly said "My fellow Americans, I've just signed legislation outlawing Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes." That's a screw up that ranks on the John Kerry level for putting your foot in your mouth.

Actually, that's the kind of "screw up" I like. Unlike Obama, Kerry and Jesse Jackson, Ronald Reagan only spoke out of one side of his mouth. He said the same things when he knew people were listening as he did when he thought no one was listening. That's why the Russians knew that Reagan meant what he said and that they had better listen up. Unlike the others who have a record of having to back peddle and offer insincere "apologies" for getting busted saying what they really felt when they thought that no one was listening, because the rest of the time they were saying something else in public. They are wieners and the world knows that they are wieners in reality.

Obama is pretty good, but he's coming into a playing field that is sick of the GOP and Bush's attitude of "it's our way or nothing", "you're either with us or you're against us", etc. Bush, Chenny, and Rumsfeld's insane level of arrogance has made it easier for him to be well recieved.

When you are in a war, the goal is victory, not a tie. It IS our way or nothing. I guess you'd have our soldiers holding hands with the enemy while singing Kumbayah? That last sentence is punctuated with a question-mark, which means that I am asking, not stating. So don't get all worked up and say that I am accusing you of anything. Just trying to pre-emptively defuse that.

I do find your thinking on that a bit naive though. How many of us thought for sure that we'd be attacked again sometime after 9/11? 99.9%? George Bush did an excellent job of protecting this nation and it's citizens, which is the PRIMARY job of both the President and Government. You are either with us or against us, there is no other side of the line. It's one or the other. The line is a sharp razor, you can NOT straddle it.

So the thinking that it "was our way or the highway" and "we ARE right" was correct when the Brittish told us that our post invasion plans for Iraq were dreadfully wrong? They told us this pre-invasion and we gave the insurgents years to get established.

So the thinking that it "was our way or the highway" and "we ARE right" was correct when loads n loads of allies said that 10,000 troops in Afghanistan is stupidly small. They told us this year after year and we ignorantly let the Taliban re-establish themselves instead of listening to our allies. We sent under resourced troops to capture bin Laden in Tora Bora and he escaped.

The list goes on and on and on.

Bush did a great job in taking the helm in the months immediately after 9/11. He royally screwed up in the years after that by believing he knew it all.

With us or against us means we fight alone and gripe about why the rest of the world won't help us. We don't have the money to do that and are on the brink (if not over the edge) of bankruptcy now.

I presume you believe in democracy and don't believe in dictatorships, why is it smart for us to be a dictator to the rest of the world?

...it is interesting to watch your mind work. BTW - Reagan is referred to as The Great Orator.

It is interesting to watch yours NOT work. :hiding:

("Communicator" not "Orator")
