Anyone know if the .22 conversion hit will work with a piston AR?

Mags and ammo, in that order!

thanks guys - budget is around $100. Hes got plenty of ammo.. and hes a reloader too so.. Hes got 6 30rd mags now.

but hes using the iron sights now so I'm thinking about an inexpensive red dot or something along those lines.

6 mags? Buy him more mags. :hiding:. What about a Magpul ACS stock? He'll need to have a mil spec buffer tube, or you could get a CTR stock for a commercial spec tube (which the Bushmaster has).

It has been said but I would go with P-Mags filled with ammo or if you have the money a quality optic. You can pay less but as they say you get what you pay for.

Honestly there are not really any cheap quality optics with perhaps a few rare exceptions.

How about a good American made quad rail free floating front end. The YHM can be typically found for a good price that is just a little more than your original price range. Or you can regularly pick up a non free floating Knight's armory quad rail set-up with a Knight's front grip in used but in great condition on ebay for $80 and less.

+1

Quality costs.

The biggest question you should ask is this: What will the AR be used for and how much will it be shot? If it isn't shot much and only at a flat range from a bench then you can get away with a lesser optic. If you are going to shoot 3 gun with it or go take a training class from someone like Magpul, EAG, etc. then I would want a quality product.

I think the most important thing to remember with ARs in general is that they are like cars. Everyone has a definite opinion about how it should be setup and what to put on it and their way is the right way and everyone else is wrong.

Good luck and remember the thing with ARs is if you don't like the setup it is easy to change to something you do like.

If you're interested in quad-rails, I have a beautiful Specter-length YHM that I'll ship to you for $100. I assume he's running a carbine-length gas system, so he'll need a low-profile gas block (they're cheap) if he doesn't have one already. The Specter-length rail is designed to completely enshroud the gas block, which makes for a nice look IMHO. For about $15, you can also buy a YHM end-cap that screws into the end of the handguard to complete the look, although it's not necessary. Just PM me if you're interested.
