I finally found the place (I think). Since the Ammo Dump has closed I have been looking for a new and larger Ammo Dump. It appears that the name is the Shooting Depot. Anyone visited the store yet in Chattanooga? I know they have an indoor range.

It is near Shallowford and Polymer Dr. Have not stopped in yet. Just opened. The Ammo Dump is closed on Hwy 58. It was bought out and then they moved the store. Not sure exactly why they bought it out, but they did.

I believe it is the building right at the SE corner of Polymer and Shallowford (across the street from the office park). There is a new sign up. It may be the "Shooter's Depot" vs "Shooting Depot. I am expecting a much larger gun shop than the Ammo Dump with better prices on the average even though this spring the prices weren't bad at the Ammo Dump. Bought three rifles there earlier this year. I just want to stop by and see. I never was much of a fan of Carter's Indoor Range.

I might swing by tomorrow, too, while I'm in town. I'll wear my TGO hat.

Could someone tell me what its near I'm familiar with shallowford rd but where is polymer drive? What is this store near on shallowford? Thanks

I "think" it's across Shallowford from the old Red Food/Bi-Lo warehouse.

Polymer dr. parallels Hwy 153 on the west side.

Think I may go by at lunch.

I did go by at lunch. ;)

Sign on door says they plan to open "on or about Dec. 15".

No one appeared to be in the store (no vehicles in parking lot).

On the plus side, my sandwich at Steamboat was very good. :D

Thanks, bvarnell, you probably saved a few people a trip out there. Any other info available (hours, phone, website)?

Prior to closure of the Ammo Dump, there was a substantial influx of new firearms there and the pricing seemed to be pretty fair. These came as a result of the new owner(s). Ammo was about typical for a gun shop, but not at rape and pillage prices. Prices seemed competitive. I am looking forward to a visit to the new store. I suspect Hal Shaw may put on his CCW classes at the new indoor range rather than up at the Chattanooga Rifle Club. But I am just guessing on that one.

Thanks for going by and saved me the trip. I was right there the other day, but I just wasn't sure which building the shop is/will be in. I wasn't particularly familiar with the businesses along that stretch even though I used to work over in that immediate area a number of years ago.

For anyone not familiar with Shallowford.... if you are going north on Hwy 153 (toward Chickamauga Dam and Hixson from I-75); Exit at the Shallowford Rd exit and then turn left or in the opposite direction of the Post Office and Hamilton Place Mall. Polymer is the first red light after you go cross over Hwy 153. (Obviously you make a right turn if you are coming south on Hwy 153 at the Shallowford Rd Exit to go toward Polymer Dr.)

The guy that bought the Ammo Dump/ Shooter's Depot seems to be a real nice met him a few times a buddy of mine bought a handgun from him and liked the way he was treated.

Sounds promising we could really use a good local gun store not saying we don't have some already but most of them IMO aren't that great. Carl out on Hixson Pike is the only really local gun store I've ever done business with and he will tell you straight up that he's charging extra on his guns to make a living. His prices are a little higher and he's honest about it.

I, too, saw nothing but the sign on the door, on Thursday. Maybe I'll get to visit sometime in the future.

I'm looking forward to a nice gunshop in Chattanooga. I'll know after one visit to the new store if it is going to be a good shop. I hope it is big enough to spread out the clingons that used to hang at the Ammo Dump. Half the time they just made me want to leave like I was invading their space.

Carter's is okay and I have bought firearms there. Carter's has a lot of potential due to the space. Used guns there are often pretty fairly priced. I think they just price at Blue Book prices which means that in demand items can sell for below market. Let my range membership expire at Carters as I just didn't like it. But you can shoot magnums there which is something. If it comes from a handgun, you can shoot it.

Acadamy will be throwing a new wrinkle into the Chattanooga market. Honestly, I will buy at Sportsman Warehouse first vs Academy as I want them to hang around. The Acadamy stores I have visited are just not that great although they have a nice selection of shoes. :P

Never really hit the other Chattanooga gun shops often. I was just never impressed and didn't go back.

I'll be glad to have another gun shop in chattanooga. I miss Darr's over in Red bank.

I may swing by and see what I can see.

Years ago I traded for a Colt Trooper Mark III at Darr's. It was a good deal for both parties.

Sweet ... lunch hour stress reliever!

Anxious to see what kind of range facilities are there and I do hope they put money in ventilation.

My only complaint with Carters is no ventilation, breathing in those fumes is not healthy.

+2 with his used gun prices, I have gotten fair deals from him with used firearms.
