Finally Camping Weather in TN

In case anyone didn't notice, last weekend here in Middle TN we had a bit of camping weather. No better way to greet the morning than some snow on the ground. These were taken at Savage Gulf in South Cumberland Recreation Area, Tennessee's finest wilderness State Park.

Heck yea. I love sitting around the campfire when it's cold, even with a little snow falling. Now getting up in the morning and getting that fire started again is a whole other story.

+1

Those cold mornings, while sometimes really refreshing, can make one a bit slow coming out of the sleeping bag.

However, given a choice, I certainly prefer cold weather camping! No bugs, no snakes!

Winter camping can be fun if you are prepared for the cold. I don't particularly like crawling out of a sleeping bag in the AM when the temps are in the 20's or lower. I love the winter and I love snow. But I would just as soon head back to the motel or cabin for a nice warm night and spend the days out in the field.

As a True Roman Should. Especially if your heritage is near the Swiss Border.

Suntzu, you are one sick individual, and that is what I admire about you.:)

:stare: Though I can't hold a candle to strickj....cause he'd probably like it.

Looks like great camping weather from the warmth and comfort of my home! Too many years of spike camps in winter weather has somewhat lessened my desires to camp in the snow and cold.

Thanks for all the comments guys. Actually cold weather (within reason) is pretty easy to pull off with the right equipment and layering of clothes. I guess over the last 10 years or so, I have found the system that works for me down to +5 to -5 or so.

Actually on this trip, wind was virtually nonexistent and I think the temps were only in the mid to upper twenty's. I pitched the tent before there was more than a dusting of snow (on top of packed snow is much colder). Also snow on top of the tent is actually a great insulator (lots of dead air space in fluffy snow).

I woke up during the middle of the night and had to take my fleece cap off that I was wearing under my mummy bag because I was a little too warm actually.

As far as women and cold weather camping; maybe one day I will find one cool enough to take along, but for now I tend to camp in this kind of weather to avoid the women in my life. Nice quietness and solitude in the woods.
