Need to sneak across the border? There's an app for that.

This crap pisses me off. Hopefully they can figure out a way to prosecute this professor in Maricopa County, AZ.

A brand-new cell phone app., developed by a professor at U.C. San Diego, is supposed to help guide illegal immigrants across the U.S.-Mexico border similar to how a GPS system works in a car. UCSD visual arts Professor Ricardo Dominguez created the app., which he is calling the Transborder Immigrant Tool, to give people crossing the border "a way not to die.

"It locates where you are in relation to where you want to go, what is the best way to get to that point and what you can expect when you reach the endpoint," Dominguez tells the North County Times.

Hmm. What to expect "when you reach your endpoint?" If that endpoint is Maricopa County, the device should probably alert users to a certain malevolent law-enforcement agency that will try and hunt them down like dogs.

Law enforcement agencies are worried that the app. will be used by drug dealers and human smugglers as they try to navigate their way into the United States, and some say Dominguez may be held criminally responsible if it can be proven that someone coming into the country illegally is using the device.

"If I drive you over and show you where to cross, that's a crime," says Peter Nunez, the former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California. "If I'm standing at the border and help you climb over, that's a crime. Theoretically, if you could give them a map, whether it's hand-drawn or computerized, that would also be illegal."

The app. is currently only available on certain types of inexpensive Motorola phones, but Dominguez hopes to have it available for free on other phones like the ultra-suave Apple iPhone.

That is bull****!!!! This guy needs to be taken out and shot! This is another great stand for our borders. Maybe if the boarder patrol downloads the app they can catch the ones using it.

I wonder if border guards with good tracking skills could locate the crossing points then use the same apps to check the best routes to several possible destination popular with sun burned runners then call ahead to have a welcoming crew all over those said destinations. Hmmm?

Isn't this conspiracy? If we catch someone with the app, wouldn't he be an accessory to the crime?

WAIT....I've got a better idea.

As I understand it, the GPS system is a U.S. Military system that civilians are allowed to use. Why not tweak the signals so that crossers get guided to good arrest points instead of the trail they had hoped for?

Do these people who live in dirt huts have IPhones?

+1 Chances are, if they can afford an iPhone and are using this app, likely that they do this often and already know all the "good" routes. Random Jose from random village in Mexico probably isn't going to use this much if at all.

I wondered the same.

Maybe they could be led right to Sheriff Joe?? Certainly this app sounds illegal but there again there are convicted felons working in the WH.

It's not an iPhone app.

From another article:

The tool is built on a Motorola i455 phone, which offers several advantages. Not only is the phone cheap -- about $40, according to Ricardo -- but no service is required for GPS functionality.

I would think that anyone building a tool specifically to help others in breaking the law would be prosecuted. We get PO'd at people like this but we should be outraged that our government continues to allow this sort of lawless, treasonous activity to go unpunished.

Random Jose might not but random Achmed the soon to be dead terrorist might.

Our government is encouraging this kind of activity: community organizing,

trying KSM in New York, CO2, blah, blah, blah. School teachers and college professors are endoctrinating our kids, not teaching them, from kindergarten up. Our country is going to have to be taken back before this stuff stops and I would like to know where the APP is for that! But I'm just a crazy guy who still believes in the Constitution.
