Any one have any Weim training tips?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone here has any experience with Weimaraners? Ours is now 8 months old and is pretty well behaved, most of the time, but is still having trouble with biting and nipping while he's playing. Nothing serious, just kinda annoying being nipped in the butt when you walk down the hall. ;) I've put a link to his pic below if anyone wants to see the little angel. Sorry, I couldn't post the pic from my work computer. :D

our weim is 4.5 years old, so he's past that puppy stage, but my guess is he's either really wanting some playtime with you or needs to burn off some energy (a tired weim is a good weim).

it's also possible it's a dominance thing, which can be problem with weims as a breed. they insist on the alpha position being filled by someone, but you'd probably notice this in other ways, i think.

a friend had a female dane that would nip at visitor's heels and butt (tried it on me as well) just about every time he had someone over. she was a very passive/timid dog and wouldn't challenge when i asserted dominance by claiming space or sitting on her favorite couch, but she'd still try to nip me when i walked away. never really figured out what was going on in her head.

i hate to say it, but Caeser Milan on The Dog Whisperer has some really good advice and has taught me quite a bit about dog psychology.

forgot to put pics of my boy.
