I saw a thread similar to this on another forum and thought it would be fun to start one here. Feel free to add your own.

1.) If I buy a new pistol, my shooting will improve

2.) Low left - it's the sights/trigger

3.) The grip angle is very important to shooting well

4.) I only need 5/6/7/8 rounds for any gunfight I'll be in

5.) I don't need to practice malfunction clearance, I just need a "reliable" handgun.

6.) Practicing shooting weak-handed is a waste of time

7.) My XYZ pistol is better than your ABC pistol because it is metal/plastic/German/double-action/has a thumb safety/etc

:P

  • 9mm is just .45ACP set on stun

  • You need to carry a caliber that starts with the number 4 (.45, .40, .44, etc.)

  • I only carry a revolver because semi-automatics are failure-prone

  • A person shot with a .45ACP will spin completely around / lose an arm / disintegrate

  • The sound of a shotgun pump being racked will scare a burglar right out of your house

  • You need a shotgun for home defense because you don't even have to aim it, just point it in their general direction

If you draw your carry weapon, your attacker will simply run away.

You don't need any training beyond your HCP class. If you are ever in a situation that requires you to draw, you will rise to the occasion and perform just like in the movies. Or, barring that, see above.

Carry a semi auto without a round in the chamber, because it's safer that way. If ever attacked, you will have time and a free hand to rack the slide.

You need a magnun rifle to shoot anything above a coyote.

My rifle is better then yours just because I am always right and it was custom built for me.

And from gun shop salesman.

That gun is too much gun for you because your a woman.

Those had nothing to do with the intent of this thread. That guy was just on his period about every single firearm/cartridge in popular culture. This thread is about all of the stupid things you've ever heard or read about a firearm.

Both of his blogposts take every stupid thing you've heard about different firearms and ammo comparisons during an internet argument and brought them together for one huge hatefest.

Otherwise, its just a continuance of this thread.

Besides, you're just the admin, you don't get a say. :D

I think that covers all the misconceptions but I really like number 4 the best I didn't know you could pick how many attackers will confront you

Of course you can. I pick zero so I don't have to carry a gun for anything other than the odd snake or dog.

I don't carry my gun everywhere I go, just when I go into bad areas.

Don't need a gun by my bed, I live in a safe, crime free area.

This <insert business> is a Gun Free Zone.

“I believe in the Second Amendment, but I believe in gun control too."

“I believe in the Second Amendment, but I still believe we should have an assault weapon ban."

"Don't believe the hype of the NRA when they tell you that it's not the guns. It is the guns. It's the guns and the people."

If you open carry you immediately lose all situational awareness and will be shot in the back of the head by a criminal with the skills of a Marine Force Recon unit while you stand slack jawed with an RC Cola and a Moonpie in your hands while standing in line at the gas station.
