Not sure if anyone here is interested in this or not,but I thought I'd share a few pics of VW process anyway.

They already have two buildings complete (offices I suppose) and are building several others.

Not sure what this big hole they're digging is for.

Maybe for a gas tank :koolaid:

dsc5164.jpg

There is a large garage located behind these offices.

All the cars parked around the this place are VWs ;)

(All their security vehicles are also VWs)

dsc5167x.jpg

This is the only pic I have that shows some of the size of how big this place will be.

(^^^To gauge the size of this building, try to spot the cherry picker out front in the above pic)

Not sure what this thing in front is suppose to be.

dsc5174.jpg

There are so many contractor trailers it's not even funny.

This is just a few!

dsc5183.jpg

They even have a small fleet of school buses to transport the workers to the job sites. Yeah, their parking lot is that huge!

Came around the corner and spotted a deer.

There's still an abundance of wildlife in this place.

(Didn't have time to change the camera settings before it ran away which is why it's so dark.)

I hear they are going to have a test track also. Im a huge VW fan,and cannot wait to see this place finished. They are also strongly advocating that VW enthusiest apply for positions at the plant. Im likin the way there doing this.

I am too!

Never been a big fan of VW,but I gotta say,I'm starting to like them more and more!

As far as their vehicles go,I was really digging the looks of that VW security van that was following me around :P

Are all those busses for bringing in the cheap mexican labor?

Im not sure that they are hiring cheap mexican labor.

A co-worker of mine works for the company that they contracted to do the electrical work in the main buildings.

I already have my application in.Along with about 40,000 other folks. But I just know they are looking to hire a white, middle aged, washed up old bricklayer.:tough:

Hey!

How did you get pictures? I'm on site and they're pretty serious about the "no photos" thing!

(I DO note most of the pics are from the ring road..:tough:

Oh, and the busses are provided by the contractors, as they are limited in the number of small vehicles they can drive around the site. Operations personnel, like me, are given vehicle passes to get past the gate that are either "unlimited" (company vehicle/management) or "trailer city only" (allowed to park at field office trailer, but take 4 wheelers around site).

The busss transport non management hourly/skilled labor en mass.

I'm "In Process" of trying to get a job down there. I wish they'd move a tad faster on that end of things!

Everybody should be local.

Or atleast that's what they say they are hiring :tough:

Did you miss the comment about the VW security van following me around?

Yeah,that wasn't a joke

I actually stopped to ask one of the guards if it would be ok for me to take pics from inside the job site. His response was "ughh NO".

I just stayed on the road after that. Figured it was city owned and I wouldn't have any problems.

I do plan on returning every 2 or 3 weeks to take updated pics of the progress.

If I do get into trouble, and you hear someone yelling "ARKOOOO...!" then come bail me out of jail

I thought you were joking about the car following you, because I've heard they've been demanding pictures be erased from digital media, at least inside the gate. :D

As for yelling for me....well, better yell LOUD!

:P

They need holes that big for the foundation. When I worked at Nissan in Smyrna, they were redoing some of the line and the hole inside the plant was prob 20-30 feet deep. There has to be alot of support for the weight of the building and equipment.

Yeah, the slab floors in some of the buildings are several feet thick. It's a neat project.

My wife and I both drive VW's so we were naturally pretty stoked when we heard about this. Great pictures!

I've had a chance to check out some of the VW's the execs drive around the site, and I gotta tell you, I'm pretty impressed. Especially with the new Toureg. These ain't you're older brother's beat up old Rabbit!

Guess that makes since on what the hole is for.

It just struck me with it being such a big hole, though.

Not sure if the building in the seventh pic is supposed to be part of this model or not.

I'm trying to see this in the model, but I just cant see it ;)

I'm not sure about the overall final site plans, as my company is currently building only the "Training Center" up the hil from the main campus. We've gotten more work down hill as well, but I won't be privy to the prints till I get there. Right now work is being done on the Training Center, Media Building/Tank Farm, Paint complex and Body Complex.

I was there the first day the City of Chattanooga started clearing the land. This was in Mid May 2008, WAY before the VW plant was public knowledge. That area was all woods and hills. There has been a TON of work there. I setup an IP camera with a Cellular connection so that the all the VIP's would be able to watch the land get cleared. I was told about it Tuesday afternoon and I had a working streaming video solution working by thursday night. In an area with no power and no networks. At one point, I swear there was at least a couple miles that were cleared and flat in every direction

VW will be great for SE Tennessee. All you have to do is look at the growth of Georgetown KY and you can see what is in the future, but they will have to sell lots of cars. This is the first plant and in most cases, it will be the largest US plant as long as the product sells.

Lots of construction going on in the Volunteer site now and there are factories being built outside the immediate area too.

If any automaker has the right car for the era, I think it's VW based on the drawings I've seen and what I've heard. Should be a sharp, super economical good looking car.

Heck, they already have a TDI diesel that beats the pants off the Pious, err, Prius.

Too bad they don't make trucks for our market.
