My brother got me back into guns a few years ago by giving me a M44. Then last weekend my sister gave me a 91/30 to go with it. It didn't come with any of the accessories though.

I went this morning to see Daniel at Guns and Leather to pick up a sling and bayonet for the 91/30. While I was there he gave me a great price on one of the hex receiver 91/30's they have in stock. Of course I had to have it.

So here is my current Mosin family.

M44 on the right, 91/30 in the middle and hex 91/30 on the left.

Very nice. I have a 91/30 and an M44. I just put an ATI stock, rail and long eye relief scope on tonight. I'll take photos when I'm finished with it...

Did you do any refinishing to the stocks? They look really nice.

The wife just bought me my first Mosin for christmas. Spent 3 hours today learning how to break everything down and cleaning off all the cosomoline. What a pain in the ass that was.

I still need to look up all the info on it. All I know so far is that it was made in 1927. Love those old guns.

I was 38 before I got in to guns and my 91/30 was the first gun I bought. It is a great gun to shoot and they all have a lot of history with them. If you have good stocks, which it sounds like you do, don't go and f*** them up by putting them in a synthetic stock. Part of the charm and character of these guns is the nicks and dings on them that they have obtained over the past years. When you pull them out of the stock you take away a big part of what makes them special.

Just my two cents, YMMV.

tnpanscraper, how is the muzzle brake holding up? I have a M44 and a M91/59 I want to put a brake on. I have seen the brake you have a e bay. But I haven't bought one yet. Thanks, gearyr

I finally shot mine after Christmas at Norris. I ordered 3 from Classic Arms, two were presents. Mine is a 1926. I re-did the stock and reblued the upper and barrel, screws etc (not the bolt or trigger/magazine). I used a Sedona Red stain and Tung Oil, looks great and shoots even better! BOOOM!!!!

MN can be beautiful rifles with a little shellac removable,some stain and hand rubbed tung oil.

I was a novice re-finisher when I did my first Mosin. But Fiebing alcohol-based leather stain will produce excellent results! The color I used, that closely match the re-arsenaled shellac was the Fiebing Medium brown stain. It will produce a small redish tint with multiple coats. I started by striping the rifle down to the stock and hand guard. I strip the shellac off with acetone and 0000 SW. Let dry for a day and apply stain, adding coats to achieve desire depth of color. Then 4 to 5 coats of tung oil, allowing to dry completely between coats. Each coat is hand rubbed with 0000 SW, being careful not to cut through the tung oil finish. The last coat is buffed with SW then a quality wood wax used to seal in. I hope this helps.
