Savage Arms Opinions

Does anyone here know anything about Savage Arms' stuff and if they would be considered a good entry level rifle? Here's a link to one I've found. Ignore the scope. It's probably poo. They don't even tell you what brand it is. And yes it does come with the gun, that should tell you. :) I'm wondering about the rifle itself. Thanks!

I have an entry level Savage 110 with a synthetic stock in .308 and it does fine by me.

It consistently shoots better than me. It's about 6 years old, and doesn't have the accu-trigger. It's pretty generic... but does everything I want it to do.

I have a 10FP in .308 with accutrigger. AWESOME rifle. I find it hard to believe that some don't like the accutrigger, I LOVE mine.

The only nit I can pick is after looking at the bore with a Hawkeye bore scope (belongs to a friend of a friend), it's kinda rough in there compared to other rifles I checked with the same tool. But if I hadn't looked I'd never have known so it doesn't bother me.

I have a 110 in .308 with the accu-trigger. I put a VXIII scope on it and it shoots better than I can. 1 inch groups if I do my part. You can't go wrong with Savage in my view.

I just bought a Savage Model 14 Classic in .223. My first time at the range with a Nikon 3x9 scope (that I already had) and I was shooting 1.5 inch groups at 100 yds. It is a nice rifle, pretty wood, smooth action and nice fit and finish. It's a keeper to me. I got the .223 because I always have plenty of ammo laying around for other stuff, I am not a hunter.

My father has an older model 110 in 7mag without accu trigger, I would compare it with my remmington 700. They both are very close in my opinion.

My Brother-in-law has 3 (270wsm,243,and 204). He will not buy anything else. I have shot them all, and I would buy one if I were in the market for a new rifle. he and my sister have taken many deer with them. Is it a Match grade gun? no. But they shoot as good or better than guns that cost twice as much.

In a nutshell

Pretty = No (or at least not most of them)

Finish quality = Good in most cases (some are less polished than others)

Accuracy = Very Good to Excellent

Accutrigger = Very Good in my opinion

Value for the money = Excellent

I have 3 different Savage 110's 30.06, 300 mag, and 7mm mag. They all shoot a lot better than I do. Mine are all pre Accu-trigger so I don't really have an opinion on that.

If you want to have a pretty rifle to show off to your friends the Savage won't work.

If you want to show your friends how good a gun shoots then a Savage is hard to beat.

Here is my 7mm mag (Gun Porn)

I have a Savage MKII .22 with the accu-trigger. the fit & finish aren't great, but man it is a shooter. I loan it to people & I can't get it back, I end up spending all day loading mags for my buddies to shoot my rifle. my only real complaint is that the mags & mag well are really below grade compared to the rest of the rifle. the stock also is off-center to the barrel, but it does not affect the shooting.

mine came with a Simmons scope which is not half bad. I replaced it with a Mueller & put the Simmons on a 10/22.

as for the trigger, it has ruined me, now I hate the trigger on every other rifle I have. my next deer rifle will be the 1 w/the accu-trigger, accu-stock & detachable box mag, probably in .30-'06, since I already have 2 others that use that cartridge (long story).

They are an incredible value. Accuracy is top notch and they are a solid rifle. I have the heavy fluted barrel 112BVSS and it shoots Rem core-lokt 1/2MOA at 100yrds. I have not tried hand loads in it yet but I'm guessing it will shoot tighter than I'm capable of doing.
