Shipping UPS to an out of state FFL

Recommended Posts

Okay, my searchfu sucks. I got a couple of hits but need some definitive answers from this crew.

Which UPS location in the Nashville area understands and won't have me bringing in half the management team to ship a rifle to a Texas FFL ?

I know I don't want it all marked up "GUN" "LOOK HERE" but are there some recommended packing tips (it has a scope on it) to meet their requirements and protect the firearm? I'm already thinking an entire roll of bubble wrap!

I also have to ship a Cabelas dry box with ammo in it separately. Just a box to surround it and declare?

Thanks in advance for all the info about to ride Al Gores highway guys!

If it's the .458 you're shipping, then none of them will. They'll all refuse and send you home. :koolaid::rolleyes:

I'd go to the one over on Massman Drive. Package it up well, and have the FFL information. Should be simple enough. I've shipped through them several times with no hassles.

You don't want to know!

I was thinking the main hub at White's Creek but I have used the Massman location before several years ago. Not for firearms but legal documents.

Either would do it, Massman is just on your side of town. I've never used White's Creek, though.

It might be worth buying an inexpensive hard case to ship it in, then put that inside a cardboard box.

Yeah, I don't want to know...

I've simply followed the law for long guns, regardless of the incorrect FAQ on ATF site, packed up firearm, printed label online, and dropped off at either USPS or UPS store without saying squat. You have to have an account to do UPS online, but you can do USPS online with "Click and Ship" without an account.

"18 U. S. C. 922 ( e):

(e) It shall be unlawful for any person knowingly to deliver or cause to be delivered to any common or contract carrier for transportation or shipment in interstate or foreign commerce, to persons other than licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, or licensed collectors, any package or other container in which there is any firearm or ammunition without written notice to the carrier that such firearm or ammunition is being transported or shipped..."

That's what I have done on the few occasions I've had to ship a long gun to a FFL.

Hint for USPS: you must personally tender packages over 13 oz, but you don't have to stand in line if you already have label/postage paid.

Just put up on counter at unoccupied station, I usually get a nod from a teller acknowledging he sees it/them, and out the door.
