Tennessee Republican Party Invades Privacy Of State’s Gun Permit Holders

November 3rd, 2009 by TNDP

More than 257,000 of the state’s handgun permit holders likely will soon get fundraising solicitations from hypocritical Republican politicians who claim they support privacy but whose actions tell another story, Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Chip Forrester said.

“Once again, Republicans have shown Tennesseans why they cannot be trusted,” Forrester said. “I thought they opposed making these records public. Who knows what else they intend to do with that kind of sensitive information.

“Gun owners and anyone else who value their privacy and the security of their homes should be outraged at this kind of behavior.”

According to the Associated Press, the state Republican Party and one of its direct-mail vendors recently requested the records despite unanimous support from all Republican legislators of a bill last session that would have closed the records to the public for all uses, including campaign purposes.

“State Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney, Senator Ron Ramsey and Representative Glen Casada don’t care about anyone’s privacy but their own,” Forrester said. “They threw a fit last year when a Memphis newspaper published the records, fretting that burglars could use the information to steal guns from homes.

“All of them gave Academy Award-winning performances demonstrating their disdain for what that newspaper did. Well, I think voters and the National Rifle Association should show their disdain for the actions of politicians who talk out of both sides of their mouths,” he added.

Good for them. No reason whatsoever they shouldn't use it. It's the law of unintended consequences at it''s best. Liberals fought closing the database from public scrutiny, citing "the publc's right to know".

Now they're complaining because they don't like how the Republicans are using it. Well, f*ck them. And the horse they rode in on.

And the Democratic Party wanted them left open all along, as well as supporting banning firearms. **** both parties. I'm sick of all the whiny bitching being done by both parties. Fingerpointing was old in kindergarten.

1) the GOP is using it to get money. They aren't publishing the data for every burglar to use

and the biggie

2) the Dems know they wouldn't get enough money from the HCP holders to cover the cost of the mailings. They are pi$$ed because the GOP has a fundraising avenue they can't even begin to compete.
