I ruined my M44

Ruined? probably not in a week.........but under microscope I'd bet there is already erosion of the metal starting.

Still seems kind a dumb to do even with a $78 rifle........yawn.

Perhaps it is dumb to listen to people on a forum and taking everything they say for granted.

Cheers to Mike for his willingness in this experiment! If nothing else, it might just prove we don't have to rush home and clean within an hour... or even a week.

onceyou lose to much heights of hte lands on hte rifleing, the accuracy will start to suffer, and will only get worse as yours lands get worns down further. I have heard of gunsmiths testing mosins from about 100 feet and only being able to hit 2 out of 45 rounds on a 2 foot by 2 foot square, and hte 2 that hit it left keyholes.

Just my $.02

Internets hype!

Kinda like wollaring out the breakdown pin holes in a glock if you detail strip it too much... or wearing down barrels by cleaning them to much.

See here...

Well I got a chance to fire my M44. After a few rounds and a brush the bore looks as good as new! I am really suprised how good it looks now.

Besides, we all know commies don't like cleaning their guns!

As I once saw on a Mosin forums which probably is pretty accurate. Most soldiers of the era probably did not live long enough to clean their rifles.

YOU too can join in the experiment! Simply leave your rifle out in the rain and report back how many days it took before it rusted to the point it was ruined :P

Cheers???.......must be a yankee thing?

Not even close to the same thing! And why must it be a Yankee thing?

Not even close to the same thing! And why must it be a Yankee thing?

corrosion from rust (iron oxides formed by the reaction of iron and oxygen in the presence of water or air moisture) and corrosion from corrosive salts(primarily mercuric salts in the priming compound in the primers) left after firing old military ammo are the SAME as both start a reaction that erodes the metal. The mercuric salts attract moisture and corrode (rust) the inside of the barrel.

SAME reaction to the metal.................corrosion.

Is 45 rounds some kind of gunsmith standard?

Or does it just take a dumb one not to figure it out in 10-20?
