Whats your guys thoughts on a Walther PPK .380? I'm thinking about getting one. I've never shot one so any info would be much appreciated. And one more thing why is it so hard to find 380 ammo? I know its hard to find any ammo right now but 380 cant be found anywhere around my part of TN. Thanks

I have stainless PPK/s that is a Interarms Walther made in Alabama by Ranger. It is a great little gun. I don't know much about the S&W made PPK's. I have read a lot of articles that have been about 50/50. There is a current recall on them.

For years it was a popular back-up pistol for law enforcement until the current crop of mini pistols started showing up. I have a lot of family that Federal/State LEO and this was their off duty gun for years. Keep in mind there has not been a German made PPK/PPKs since the end of WWII. They have been made in France/or the US.

I have the Interarms version that I enherited from my father. I believe the trigger had vertical grooves that he refinished smooth. It certainly is different to strip. The only thing I dislike is the HEAVY first pull of the trigger. I do like the weight of it because I can tell that it's there. It IWB's easily. I keep the pinkie mag extension in it and the flat one for the pouch. Also, with stainless I don't have to worry about the finish wearing off.

I see it has been a few days since this thread was started but I just saw it.

I've got a S&W made PPK380 and I happen to love the little pistol, I find it highly accurate and very easy to conceal. It works very well with a pocket holster, an Uncle Mikes and even a belly band.

It does have a bit of bite for a 380 or so it seems to me. My PPS-9 seems to have less bite than the PPK.

I got mine NIB from a friend just after the first of the year but since I could not reproduce the recall problems I held it until Oct and got it back within 10 days. I can not tell any difference in it since the recall work.

I have never had a FTF or FTE, A bad range reload or two is all.

It was my first ever pistol in many years and I was really surprised at how accurate it was, I also did not really notice the bite until I got and fired the PPS.

While it is not German made and has had the recall which overwhelmed S&W I feel it is a very good weapon.

Mine is also stainless and I added some Houge Kingwood grips and now not only is it accurate and reliable it is very sharp looking IMO. The new grips added a bit of width to it which I also like.

Back a few months ago I was reading horrible stories of them taking forever to come back and even some being damaged....S&W however seemed to go out of their way to make people happy.

Like I stated I have had NO problems with mine with a bit over 1000 rounds thru it....I do love it

I have a military background but am new to handguns beginning the first of this year. I do however recommend this pistol and love mine.

Did I say I loved it?

Others will recommend other 380's and I am sure they are also fine, I do not however think I will ever part with mine.;)

I also fired a friends PK380 and it is also a very sweet shooter with the recoil of a .22, a huge difference from the PPK, I bought a First Edition PK but have yet to fire mine.

The one thing I do not like about the PK is that you must use a special (included) little tool to break it down, I dont care for that idea but other than that the one I fired impressed me enough to buy one. The PK is modeled after the P22 and is cheaper than the PPK.

If I had to pick just one however it would be the PPK. Even with the added recoil and the fact the PK will hold 8 while the PPK only holds 6.

As for ammo it has been hard to find all year, I think this is because so many people have recently bought 380's and it wasnt a mass produced round. I am sure the supplies will pick up soon.

Good luck and if you do get one I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

My PPK is in .380 and I do love it. If you are married, your wife might like it better than you do!

Sleek, it does well as a pocket gun, as mentioned above. Hey, if it was good enough to be the gun that killed Hitler, it must be pretty good! (even though his was a .32)

Anyway, my wife says it is hers now, and I will be getting another. My PPS in .40 is excellent, better throw weight and is just as slim with its single stack configuration. You might find the ammo is easier to find as well.

Every time I fire the PPK, I am reminded of how snappy it is on recoil. I actually get a little bit of hammer bite, even with a strong grip. I fired my dad's PPK this weekend next to my PPS, and even in 9mm the PPS has significantly less felt recoil.
