Bottom line up front: I've looked at alot of factory .45acp ammo. For what its worth, this stuff tests out like a champ. It doesn't have a flashy name and it comes in a non-descript box but it works well.

These are winchester 230gr jhp's from walmart. Its in a white box, the only other thing on it is "personal protection". I decided to test it with the recent threads on wwb and the quality of winchester ammo in general.

Pulled bullet weight: 228.9 grains (only 1 weighed)

Spilled the powder, but it looked like it was in good shape.

OAL: 1.2135-1.2155 over 5 rounds

Felt Recoil: medium running to heavy, a good solid crack

accuracy: good running to real good (one handed standing i could head shoot a b-27 at 25 yards the same as always, sorry no bench testing)

8 shot string on the chrono, 5" 1911 (bout 60 degrees today i think):

1. 830 fps

2. 856

3. 860

4. 854

5. 838

6. 844

7. 874

8. 866

To have something to compare it to, I ran my reloads with 8.3 grains of accurate #5 behind a ranier 230gr plated hollow point, I used an OAL of 1.2355 +/- .0005. Winchester brass, wlp primers.

1. 883 fps

2. 854

3. 839

4. 862

5. 878

6. 862

7. 864

8. 874

The winchester specs out darn close to my handloads. Can't tell the difference recoil wise when loaded 50/50 in one magazine. My stuff might a smidge hotter, but you can't see it in the recorded strings.

I'd guess my reloads would be a smidgeon more accurate with the pistol locked in a vice, but who knows. For offhand/prone shooting to 50 yards can't tell a difference.
