I'm just trying to determine if there is a clear written law on the subject.

Good luck with that endeavor. There are many threads on this forum relating to the vagueness of the statutes in this state.

Pretty clear to me. Lack of a prohibition means no prohibition.

You can read all TN weapons statutes at:

Click Title 39, Chapter 17, Part 13.

Hazmatt,

The way you describe in your original post is perfectly adequate and legal. Enjoy your time at the range.

Quick question about this: Girlfriend is taking her HCP class tomorrow. She's taking a .32 that she's comfortable with to use on the range. If she keeps it in the trunk until she gets to the range then puts it in her purse to hold it until finished... is she good to go?

She is going to purchase ammo at the range so I know she doesn't need to worry with keeping ammo seperate.

If she will be on private property and the owners of the property are fine with this during the transition to purse then she is good to go! Otherwise it would be illegal for anyone but HCP carriers to at any time have possession of a loaded pistol.

However...Make sure she doesn't forget before she leaves that property.
