I'm told I have a twisted view of the ammo situation, but I keep the heaviest grain fmj I can find loaded in home and carry guns. For 2 reasons. One heavy hardball and fmj will penetrate almost all regular clothing. And number two, if I ever have to shoot someone, I don't want some uninformed liberal prosecutor, judge or jury say "You used those mankiller pdf bullets that hve no other purpose."

I know this won't sit well with a lot of our members and casual visitors, but that's my feeling. And I do not think that there is anything at all wrong with using any of the new pdf rounds, I rather like some of them; but that's just my decision.

Anyway I think the winchester jhp is an adequate round, but is is kind of dated for personal defense rounds. Does that seem confusing enough?

I just think that a lot of thought needs to go into whatever round you decide to load into your handgun. It is a multi-level choice that deserves careful consideration on your part.

Better than FMJ for sure, but it's really not what you'd want to stake your life on as it's underpowered compared to most SD JHP ammo, especially in 9mm, you'll find most 9mm SD ammo not only is JHP, but is also high velocity +P to deliver more punch and the added velocity to help reliably expand the hollow point. Will the hollow point expand reliably without that extra oomph? who knows... maybe, maybe not.

IMO this is good stuff to run through new guns to make sure they're reliable feeding and functioning with JHP without dropping a lot of $$$ on whipping through a couple hundred Gold Dots or other more expensive SD JHP stuff. I usually will put at least 50 of my chosen carry ammo (which for me in 9mm is 124gr +P Gold Dots) and a couple hundred rounds of that white box 147gr JHP stuff through a gun I'm going to carry and place my trust in.

It also is pretty accurate and the 147gr JHP has a nice "feel", if I see it on the shelf when picking up 9mm before for a match I'll sometimes grab it since I don't reload. YMMV.

I use the nastiest ammo I can find (124gr golden Sabre) because I would rather have to face the uninformed liberal prosecutor than have my attacker on trial for MY murder (and possibly my families, too)!

I agree. I also like Buffalo Bore +P 9mm. It isn't much more money to pick up a box of Golden Sabre 9mm or Gold Dots.

You will be fine with this ammo. Hit what you are aiming at is all that counts. It may be true about the other posts. But this stuff will do what is intended.

While I carry something I consider "better" due to studying the prevailing research, I wouldn't feel like I was necessarily any less effective in defending myself carrying the rounds in question.

What would be everyones answer IF WWB JHP fed better AND more consistent than the "so-called" better ammo?????

For me, there's really not "feed better". Either the chosen ammo feeds, fires, and ejects, or the ammo goes, or the gun goes (if it can't be fixed).

Relying on XD for carry thus far, I've not had either prob.
