So I'm looking at a .243 mossberg Whitetail Lightning Combo this morning. Curious if anyone has any feedback on them. Don't know how you can go wrong with a $299 rifle combo. It's a no name brand scope, but better then nothing I suppose. I have to get something while I wait for my E.R. Shaw Mark VII to be built and shipped. Problem with that is it takes 8-10 months to get that one back so that's for next year.

I have a Mossberg ATR 100 in 30-06 with a Leupold 3-9X scope on it. It has been my main "out West" deer rifle for several years now. It isn't a bench rest rifle but is light, rugged and plenty accurate for deer. I am very happy with mine.

My first deer rifle was a Mossberg 243. I had no complaints. Accuracy was very good. The barrel heated up rather quickly however. This was a Model 800. Sold it off a number of years ago as I wasn't shooting it or likely to shoot it. It got replaced for deer hunting with a Remington Model 700BDL in 270. No complaints at all with that rifle.

My Partners son bought one a couple weeks ago.He got a .30-06 it has a factory Mossburg scope,no muzzle break just plain jane.

I sighted it in for him and was very suprised with the grouping at 100 yards the first 2 shots touching and the 3rd about 3/4" off.The recoil was half of what I expected and the scope responded exactly the way it was supposed to.

This rifle is well worth the money.
