Not looking for suggestions on contents of a bug out bag, but suggestions on an actual bag.

I'm considering replacing my ALICE pack w/ a different kind of pack. I'm thinking something with zippered access rather than a top loading pack, so I can get to whatever I need, whenever I need it, and rather quickly.

I was kind of considering one of the USMC's ILBE packs...

Anyone have any cost effective suggestions?

Just did a quick google search and they are right at $100. Is that the same pack you are looking for?

$100 isn't much more than a new ALICE pack. For $200, you can get a large Gregory Balturo that is freaking awesome. I'd get a non reflective camo cover for it. I've seen one of these and they are VERY nice. What I fit 40 lbs into an ALICE and I feel all 40 lbs, this thing feels like 10 lbs. I was going to get a Maxpedition Vulture, but I don't know after seeing the Balturo. Mine is used mainly for backpacking, which is all you will be able to carry if you are bugging out, anyways, IMO.

See my "I miss MOLLE" thread.

SunTzu tried my Baltoro. Both top (standard) and rear (zippered) access of main compartment. 2 long zippered side compartments. Upper, Rear and lower zippered compartments. 2 small zippered pockets on the waistband. Hydration compatible (fancy way of saying it is set up for a camelback bladder w/tube exits in the main compartment.

Mine has a weighed 50 pounds in it right now. I can feel it, but it is comfortable. Doesn't feel like 50 pounds, thats' for sure!

Yeah, that's the pack I'm looking at. I've seen it as low as $50 from surplus stores (previously issued of course). It's mainly the access that is so attractive to me, but I've also heard that the load bearing is GREATLY improved over the ALICE packs.

I would SERIOUSLY save the scratch to buy a Baltoro if you like what you see. I don't think you would be disappointed.

Check out voodoo tactical. They have some great Molle bags, weapons cases, pouches, etc.

I just bought few things from them and the quality is top notch. They are in Raleigh, NC, so shipping is quick.

The company behind it is Captain Daves Survival Store. Put that in google and you'll find a website full of everything you need.

I opted to go with regular old civilian style backpacks in subdued colors for me and my wife. You can't carry as much in one as a military style pack, but my aim wasn't really to create Bug Out Bags, but rather Get Home Bags. My reason for going with a civvie style pack was "camoflage". I figured if someone see's you wearing a military style pack loaded down with goods you are going to look like a much more rewarding target than someone carrying a smaller mass produced and widely available "WalMart style" pack. I also thought you might draw more attention from any LEO's, National Guard, or whatever policing force we may have operating at the time. I may be way off, but that was just simple thinking from a simple man.

Here is the pack I used.

You make really sense. I really like the Maxpedition and all the tactic gear but I want to blend in when things break loose.
