M1 .30 Carbine

US M1 .30 Carbine made by Winchester. it appears that it is a Korean War ear Carbine. everything appears to be original except for one magazine & the bayonet sheath. It came with two 15rd magazines, sling & oiler, carry case and bayonet w/ Sheath.

I still need to confirm that is is actually a Korean War rifle.

Picked it up from the pawn shop last Saturday, got to shoot her Veterans Day & she is defiantly a shooter.

Sorry for the bad pics, I'll try for some better ones later.

Actually, it a WWII rifle as are all M1 Carbines. They ceased production and the end of that war and never made another. The great majority were rearsenaled after WWII, adding the bayonet mount and adjustable rear sight.

However, there is a good probability that it saw service in Korea.

Regardless, it looks great! :panic:

that bayonet appears to be a WW2 issue. Valuable to a collector.

not sure but I think there should be a date stamp on the barrel near the muzzle end of things.

Only the very early Winchesters had barrel date stamps..... They stopped barrel dating like mid/end 1942.

Nice looking carbine OP

no discernible markings on the bayonet. looks like there may be a raised image in the pommel, but its not readable. I'll try to get a pic of it latter this week.

Is it a faux pas to ask what you paid? As stated by other members "I've gotta get me a carbine", and am wondering what they're going for these days.

Accuracy is pretty darn good at a 100yrd. Next trip to the range I'll see how she does shooting for groups.

I actually paid just shy of $1,000. I paid a bit much, but I was able to put it in layaway, so it made it affordable.

CMP has bavarian models, but they still list a 6 month wait for delivery on all orders.

AIMsurplus also just got a shipment in.

not to criticize but you way overpaid. But as long as you are happy thats all that matters.

I don't know any of us that has not overpaid for soemthing at some point.

In spite of the sights going out to 300 yards I think it is pretty much a 50 to 100 yard rifle. Got to remember it was put into use to replace a pistol. For real shots at distance a Garand comes into play.

If it is an all correct era Winchester you did not "overpay" IMO. If it is a "mixmaster" then yeah you paid a bit much. Have you taken it apart to see if the trigger housing, Hammer, Slide, and other parts are Winchester? The stock appears to be Winchester. Does the stock have a cartouche on it? Is there a "W" in the slingwell? How early is the serial number? If early if may be a springtube model...more of a "cool factor" to some.

The bayonet sheath appears to be an early one. It does not have metal hangers for the belt on top so it is a trench knife, pre-carbine baynet era.

Welcome to the Carbine club regardless. You're gonna love it.

As for range, yeah. 100 yards...

Wish I still had that photo of the sighting dot with the one hole in the middle of it, Mike. Loudmouth on another forum is insisting you can't do that with a Garand.

Wish I could get away with offering him a couple grand if he'd let me take one shot at him at say, 800 yards, with my M1. :)

Yep if it is a matching carbine then maybe not too bent over on the price. I would find it hard to believe that it matches. Has bayonet mount, a sure sign of being worked on. But you never know.

M1 Carbine is my favorite rifle. The guy on the other forum is just plain wrong. Seen that shot with my own eyes.

Apparently the guy on the other forum is a TAPCO commando with a set of screwdrivers from Midway. This makes him a gunsmith, I guess. After he informed me that the issue M16's are more accurate than National Match .30 cal rifles at any range, and greentip 5.56 has more penetration at long range anyway, I just let it drop.

He really needs to tell the Army that they are foolishly wasting money equipping snipers and DMR's with unnecessary rifles and ammo, when they ought to be giving them rack grade M16s and that anti-tank 5.56 ammo.

Anyway, I'm about done there. Nothing I can teach such a well-trained basement ninja, and darn sure nothing he can teach me.

Sorry for the thread hi-jack, Goomba.

By the way, when I went to Anniston, one of the carbines I picked up was blued, but not marked as a Bavarian issue. Anyone else seen this?
