Saving YouTube videos

Does anyone know if there's a way to save a YouTube video to your computer?

I found a couple sites listed on Google, but didn't want to try anything unless I could find someone that's done it.

Any video you find on YouTube can be saved as a QuickTime video. When you find a video you want to keep, copy the link, then, go to:

www.keepvid.com

…and paste the link where it says URL. Click on Download to the right of the URL window.

In the next window that pops up, avoid the Download button just below the URL because it is a sponsored product they want you to buy. Instead, click on the Download link that will appear below that. That will download a high quality video that will play in QuickTime and other media players.

KeepVid might work for links other than YouTube. You’ll just have to give it a try to find out.

After saving video to computer and attempting to play the video, I keep getting an error message.

Download RealPlayer (http://www.real.com/). It'll install something into your browser that allows you to download videos.

This is what I use, works great.

Don't download the .flv versions. Get the mpeg ones. I just downloaded "The Government Can" by Tim Hawkins. Works perfectly.

That's what I was doing wrong.

I just used Real Player, and it worked. I'll try it with the mpeg.

If you are using Firefox as your browser, I recommend Download Helper. It's small and unobtrusive. It lets you not only download, but convert the flv files to several other formats. It's free, works good.

Stay away from anything RealPlayer wants to install on your computer!!!

This is what i use. It is just an add on for firefox so its not intrusive at all. Works great and easy.

FYI, the guy who owns real player is a real piece of work. A "progressive" piece of work.
