I have been wanting the Samsung LED TV since they came out. Just last week I learned of the new Vizio 55 LED LCD, I got to check one of these out in Houston Texas and I was blown away! we have had a 37 Olevia LCD in our living room for over 2 years, great TV for the money I will be putting that in my bedroom and getting the Vizio in the next couple of weeks. Folks for $2000.00 this TV is a bargain and over $1500.00 cheaper than the Samsung that I was wanting. Anyone here own a Vizio? I have heard great things about them

I've got 2 Olevias, a 26" and a 42", and yeah they're AWESOME TVs, especially for the money.

I have a buddy who bought one of Vizio's 720p LCD TVs about 2 years ago, and it's got a good picture for the price, and hasn't given him a bit of a problem.

I believe his was actually a refurb from Tiger Direct, which is a great source for both new and refurb HD TVs.

I would go with the Samsung LED LCD personally. I know it is more money. But I have not heard great things about vizio. Well I take that back they are great for the first few months then they die. My in laws had one then switched to another brand after the vizio died.

I am getting it through Dell with a 4 year extended warranty that I hopefully will not need, but I did compare both sets side by side and the picture was spectacular on both I can use the extra money I save for gun stuff

Really?!

That sucks... If I was to buy a 3rd TV I'd probably be looking for another Olevia:(

Yep. It sure does. I've got a 37" in my bedroom and a 32" in my little girl's room. They're not on par with the Sony SXRD I have as the centerpiece in my home theater setup, but they're awfully close. Best TV's I've ever owned for the money.

To the OP, Vizio and Olevia were competing for the same market share, and Vizio is still around. Take that for what it's worth. Can you get a better LED? Sure. But you'll also pay 2-3 times as much for the same screen size. Also, keep in mind that this is Gen. 1 LED stuff, so the technology is just going to get better (and cheaper) over the next couple of years. I'd say go with the Vizio, and if a new must-have feature emerges in Gen. 2 or Gen. 3, you won't feel so guilty about wanting to upgrade. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Makes good sense to me, thanks :) and it DOES suck that Olevia is out of business the 37 that I own has been the best money that I have spent on a TV

Sony sucks. Sorry just had to jump in their. Every Sony product I have owned in the last 7 years, except for my PS3 has died on me within a year.

I would agree that Sony audio components don't have the best reputation, but their higher-end TV's have consistently been ranked among the best (among mass market stuff) in quality, features, and customer satisfaction for years. I still miss my old pre-digital WEGA's sometimes. Sounds like you've had a run of bad luck! :)

Talking about Sony, I was at Costco the other day and they have a Sony deal, 52in plasma and blue ray/dvd for 1700. Now i did not pay much attention to which one it was as i don't neen another item to move. but it seemed like a good deal. Also for Vizio, if i'd buy one i'd buy it from costco, they have a sweet return policy. so when it breaks, they'd replace it

I love Sony, just not their TV's, before digital I had 2 different 32 inch models, within 3 years a tuner went out on each My stepson owns a very expensive 40 inch HDTV and has had nothing but problems with it

I have a 48 inch Vizio LCD in my "man cave". It has a great picture, very deep blacks. When I got mine I just went to the store and looked that the size I wanted and picked out the one with the best picture and it ended up being a Vizio. I have been very happy with it.

I've had my 60" Sony SXRD for about 2 years, and have had no issues. However, as I posted in another thread, there are more than one class-action lawsuits against Sony for knowingly selling TV's with faulty Opitical Blocks. They have since extended the warranty on almost all of their SXRD models. I'm still very happy with the amazing picture quality of my Sony SXRD.

A friend/neighbor of mine is a TV Tech, and he swears by Samsung. I've never owned one, but that will likely be my next TV. The new Samsgun LED is AMAZING. Just a shade over an inch thick, IIRC. And a picture that is second-to-none, IMHO.

I guess it all depends on the money you're willing to spend. When it comes to TV's, you DO get what you pay for in most cases.

For Best Buy Reward Zone members:

LG 55" LED TV (9318696) and LG Blu-ray Player (9267759) $2799.99 TV + $299.99 Blu-ray Player = $3099.98 - $900 TV Savings - $300 Package Savings = $1899.98 ($1200 Total Savings)
Yeah, it's an LG (I've had an LG LCD on my wall for a couple of years now and I very satisfied with it). Consider that much like tube TV's and LCD panels, there are only a few companies that make them. LED is so new I'd bet Samsung is the only company that is make LED panels. Which means all the LED panels are Samsung regardless of the brand stamped on the bezel. Of course you take your chances with the rest of the electronics but as I've said, I'm satisfied with my LG LCD.

BTW: This is a one day only, Reward Zone member only, after hours sale at a only a couple of Best Buys. 11/15 is the sale date.

Good advice,

After comparing these things for a couple of weeks I decided the extra money was warranted, I will be getting this one next week the specs, contrast, pixels everything are superior to the Vizio, I have always liked Samsung products and my wife is onboard, so it is a done deal, thanks for all of the replies to this thread!

The Sonys have a great picture but the glossy screen gives too much reflection from room lighting. I guess it's ok if you always watch tv in a dark room.

there are no LED panels, only LCD's with LED light source instead of the traditional CCFL
