My wife and I finally went to the DMV to turn in our stuff and and pay for our "rights" and they tell us we need to get our fingerprints somewhere else. So I set that up on-line with that "cojent id / TAPS" webpage and is says it's going to cost $48 for each of us!!

Do we acually have to use this system? I know others who've been finger printed at local sheriff's offices or jails. We've already paid too much to back out now, and I don't want to risk losing what we've already paid for. But good-golly Ms. Molly I sure don't want to drop ANOTHER $100 if I can help it. Can I get fingerprinted somewhere else?

Thanks.

The finger print fee is already included in the 115 bucks you payed at the DOS. Just go to the most convient Cojent site and tell them you are there to get your finger prints done for HCP. If you go to the Sheriff's office you will lengthen your wait on the HCP.

Yes, welcome to gun friendly Tennessee where you must pay a ridiculous amount of money for the "privilege" to exercise one of your enumerated rights...

StreetWK05 has it right. If you've already paid your fees at the post office and made the call to the number on the paperwork to confirm you're ready for your fingerprints, just go to a finger printing location. I had mine done at Guns & Leather.

OK, got our prints taken. No extra payment, no fuss. Just a few issues convincing the computer scanner that they were indeed my fingers. :tinfoil:

When my prints were done, they sprayed windex on my hands to enhance the print.

They ( sheriff office) sprayed water on my hands. First told me it was battery acid( but i knew better).

Didin't cost me any extra money or time when i had mine done at the sheriff's office. And they have the scanner/modern fingerprint machine.

My experience at the Lincoln County Sheriff's office was very positive. No cost and very patient with me and my wife. Super folks there and very professional.

When me and dad got our permit's (rare father son anything for decades) they was rolling his fingers back and forth on the touch pad taking a few tries each. It got to be my turn i asked the gal if i could try and hit each one first try by myself. Then got a odd look and asked how many times have i had my prints taken.

She didn't believe the answer was none!

The fingerprinting fee is included in the $115 license fee you pay. I had mine taken at the local United Parcel Service store.

So where do you guys find a list of the places you can get your prints made? The Cogent site sucks, and I can't find a list of where to go anywhere online.

Call a couple UPS stores and ask if they fingerprint.

The ones around Chattanooga do it digitally (no ink) and transmit electronically. You may need to make an appointment, not all employees are quallified to fingerprint.

Had the same thing happen to me,,, the guy was crushing my fingers into the pad and kept getting negatives. I asked if I could give it a try and got all on first try:D
