Muzzleloader issue: CVA Wolf

I like this little Wolf. It was cheap. It's light and accurate. Loading sabots is pure misery, though. I'm running TC Shockwaves with the blue sabot. 250grs., I believe. After the first round, it's a real battle to seat the next ones unless I fully clean it. This is apparently a common problem with muzzleloading. MMP sabots look like an option, but there are many sizes to choose from. I don't know my exact bore diameter, either. Anyone have any advice on which size to try first?

I use the TC super glides and can get three shots in before swabbing. Granted it's a bear by the third shot. TC does recommend swabbing between shots and shooting with a dry bore using sabots. The shockwaves do load harder.

I have not tried this yet but around here I hear rave reviews on the Blackhorn powder. Blackhorn 209 :: High performance muzzleloading propellant After the year is out I will start playing with this myself. In an earlier thread RCCsdad had commented on his use of Blackhorn. Both of us are shooting TC Omegas.

My Dad, Brother and I have been playing with the Blackhorn. One thing we have found is to use the black saboted Shockwaves. They are harder to load, but improve accuracy a bit. T/C came out with the Superglide (yellow) sabot after the Omega was released. Just made it easier to load.

My Brother shot a 3 shot group MOA ~2" at 200yds. If I had not seen it, I would not believe it. He was shooting 120 gr- the max for Blackhorn. My gun likes 110. Dad has an older style Encore and he would shoot 200 gr. if he could, so shoots 120 fairly well.

Be sure to use a regular 209 primer and not a ML 209 with the Blackhorn.

No swabbing- although after 10 or so shots, it gets a little tougher to load, but not as bad as Pyrodex or T7 after a couple. Cleans up easily with Hoppe's 9 or others.

Sir, I have one and love it. I do not like sabots. I shoot Win 209 primers, 2 fifty grain Hodgdon 777 pellets, and a 295 grain power belt bullet. You can shoot them forever and not have to clean the bore. I'm getting 1" 100 yard groups from this combination, and the bullets slide down the bore with just enough resistance to ensure they don't fall out.

Plus one on the Powerbelts. I use two pellets of Pyrodex and 245 grain hollow points. Steady pressure is all it takes to load after shooting.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to try some narrower sabots from MMP and some Powerbelts.
