A moment of silence would be appreciated for my fallen brothers on April 18, 1969.

April 18th & 19th 1969-Quang Tri Province, I Corps, Nui Tot Mon, south of Fire Support Base Charlie 2.

C Troop 3rd/5th Cavalary night defensive position is attacked by sappers of the 1st Battalion, 36th Regiment, 308 NVA Division resulting in 15 KIA, 35 wounded.

Enemy losses were 16 NVA KIA. But they carry off their KIAs so a good count is impossible.

The NDP was not completely overrun because of the guts and determination of the individual troopers. Hand to hand combat on the ground with the invading forces was necessary.

Killed by hostile action were Ron Riley, John Burges, George Dahlman, Tim Tipton, Charles Smith, David Dittmer, Charles Short, Kenneth Brinker, Perry Scott, William Watson. Larry Lucas, Victor Mills, Andrew Biedon and Paul Savanauch.

I believe Paul Savanauch was a reporter for Stars and Stripes.

Thanks from an old Trooper,

Don

Might I add this:

A verse borrowed from the ANZACs (Australia & New Zealand Army Corps) of WWI who proclaimed:

"They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old. Age shall not weary

them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the

morning, We will remember them... Lest we forget."

To all my brothers and sisters who served with pride and honor in the defense of our nation on this Veterans Day.

Hand SALUTE...Ready, TWO!
