Ok so I am looking into building one of the lowers I have.

I have been looking at model1sales.com as I have been advised from my smithy. I would like some honest opinions on what I am looking to build and if you have any real life experience with model1. This is just one of three builds that I am looking at doing. I have 3 lowers and am making three rifles one at a time.

20'' AR15 Standard Rifle Kit,

  1. 5.56 NATO, 1-9'' twist chrome lined chamber & bore;
  2. A3 w/YHM rear sight, $45.00 option;
  3. Chrome carrier w/black bolt, $60.00 option;
  4. Rock River Arms match 2 stage, $105.00 option;
  5. Standard charging handle;
  6. YHM flip front sight gas block, $75.00 option;
  7. YHM free float 4 rail, $140.00 option;
  8. M-4 6 position stock, $25.00 option;
  9. Standard A2 grip

The price on this is $970. What do you guys think?

I think I'd just build it with whatever parts you plan on upgrading to later, and be done with it. You're putting money unnecessarily into items that you're going to discard and never be able to recoup. It's not like people often buy spare milspec charging handles; they're always upgrading to better ones.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Changed options, sticking with the standard charging handle though. I dont like the other options, just looks like something to get caught on clothing.

I'd check into the PRI Gas Buster charging handle if I were you. It's about a $90 upgrade but it's worth it. Keeps gasses from venting into your face when you're shooting, especially if you shoot nose-to-charging handle like I do.

you might want to check www.aimsurplus.com right now they have the Complete CMMG m4 upper with Troy Industries Rail for only $547.15 + .01 shipping. Then all you will need is a $100.00 CMMG lower (aim also sells), Lower parts kit ~$70, and a butt stock($varies). You will have a better quality imho rifle for quite a bit less money. The CMMG M4 upper is 100% milspec, properly staked, and has a higher quality 4150 Chrome lined barrel that is also MP tested. Another route is to get a CMMG Piston AR complete as they are going for right at $900 + shipping in most places.

That may be a viable option for another build but I am looking at a 20" that one is 16"

Definitely will look into it. Thanks

I have built 2 24",1-8 twist rifles from Model 1 Sales. Both are solid, well made and accurate. One is over three years old, and we can STILL pick off apples at 300+ yards with little effort. The second one is only a few months old. Neither have iron sights, only High powered optics. I would suggest getting at least the tactical or badger latch for the charging handle. Depending on where/how you mount your scope, getting two digits on the charging handle can prove difficult. With either of these you can use one hand on the left side of the gun. But, no scope=no prob. this is the first one

I agree completely. Just been thru this. Pick out the parts you want and be done with it.

Kind regards,

It is the Magpul PRS, which is a $210 upgrade on Model1's sight. But only a $175 upgrade at Del-ton's web site. I built a 16" AR from one of their uppers. Also a good site to get an upper from. It looks like this

SO which is better, del-ton or model 1. As far as parts etc go

Lower parts kits? Colt. :lol:

Or check with G&R Tactical as they were putting together a quality LPK at a substantially lower cost point than Colt. Truly, you could just use a DPMS kit and be fine. I run some of their parts in my SBR lower and have had zero problems.

Both are equal quality. Model1 has more options. Del-ton has SOME better prices. Either should provide a lot of good shooting for you. When I made my most recent model 1 purchase, I placed my order on Jan 7th and received my upper kit in July. I do not know what the wait is now, but every supplier of ARs has been back logged it seems.
