All kinetic pullers are pretty much the same. I have the RCBS, like the one you posted, and have used it for over 20 years and it still works as advertised.

The vise and pliers method will pretty much render the brass and bullet unusable. Sort of defeats the purpose of pulling the bullet.

thats what i use, its pretty simple, unscrew the cap, slide round inside the Collette, this is the key slide it till the Collette catches the rim of the casing and tighten cap, wack the mallet on hard surface, don't need to kill it just firm solid strikes and the bullet will work itself out.

now a vice may be faster but more dangerous and you will likely damage the bullet and casing, the bullet puller is better, how ever you can get a bullet pulling die to put in your press that will also be a safer alternative.

Just a hint, you can use a shellholder if you don't want to mess with the collet. Just unscrew the cap, insert case and shell holder, replace cap and whack away. I usually use the collet on rimmed cases as I can get them out without having to unscrew the cap but rimless cases I use the shellholder. I have had the little collet come apart on me several times over the years and if it is tight you still have to fight the case out. You don't have to with the shell holder. One other thing. If you have the older RCBS type of bullet puller with the little metal wire coil spring, you can replace it with an "O" ring. works better.

The best one is the one made by Hornady.

I've got the one you use with a press. Hornady Cam-Loc. You will need a collet for each caliber. Great if you have several to dissamble.

I bought the Frankford Arsenal Impact Bullet Puller when I first started reloading. I like it. Wish it was clear, able to see case and bullit while pulling. I've used it to reseat some of my reloads. (Someone has to come through and turn a screw or 2 every now and then, on the press). A few that I've picked up at the range, check their charge, since they didn't fire. Some to reclaim bullits in some mischarged cases.
