Hand guns

Is it just me or what? Seems like any hand gun forum you visit there are 100's or 1000's of complaints for people about there brand of handgun , FTF's FTE's or sights, or triggers , something. If the gun makers are really turning out as many "clunkers" as posted on the internet, I can't see how they have'nt gone under. Now don't get me wrong, all the major companies have gone through poor quality cycles, ie. Colt in the late 70's Smith in the mid 80's Ruger when they first opened the AZ. plant. But come on , can anyone agree with me that maybe at least 90% of all these "bad" guns are really no more than OWNER problems, Not understanding how the gun works and inproper cleaning, re-assembley, and not to mention owner added or replaced parts, look at the 1911 froum, half of all the post are from someone who just bought a new gun an started replacing parts before they shot it, then post how poorly it shoots or how many failures they have, so that brand of gun isn't any good.;) Just seems odd to me how much the shooting world has changed. Or am I just getting too old?:)

Most malfunctions, most of the time is the operators fault. And the sales person who sold them that gun without first fitting the firearms to the buyers hand or telling them something usefull about the weapon. and and you ARE getting old ;)

I think improper oiling of the semi's is a large part of it. But my Glock will run wet or dry so... I'm going to grab some more ;), back in a bit.

Anything mechanical can break... and odds are that it will at some point.

I'd look at the large number of reported failures as indicating a small segment of a vast and quickly growing number of weapons in the market, owned for the most part by folks who are inexperienced at shooting and/or maintaining their weapon. Some of the best and most reliable firearms ever produced are being made right now, but there will always be a few failures due to mechanical issues, maintenance issues, ammo issues or operator error... there are simply more of us yahoos on the interwebz talking about them.

This was discussed in another forum, somewhere else,I think a lot of the problems are from new shooters that are unfamiliar with the mechanical workings of a firearm. Some pretty simple stuff to a veteran shooter is a big deal to a new shooter, take for instance the fella wanting to know if there is something wrong with his new Glock because the end of the pistol was dirty after firing only 300 rounds, well DDUUHH-burnt powder means soot,so a lot of these types of problems are owner created when there is no problem.Common sense aint so common.;):D
