The typical gun shops and big box places will.

The market for .22 target pistols falls into 3 categories: cheap, mid-range, and high dollar.

In the cheap range is the Phoenix with 5" barrel (I have one in the shop). It is an OK gun. Filled with a million safeties that make it a puzzle piece it has a decent SA trigger. Probably well under $200 out the door.

In the mid range the most popular is the Ruger Mk III or whatever it is they are selling currently. The only drawback I can see to the gun is that takedown is ridiculously hard (I've never done it). Other than that it is an excellent choice with a good balance of accuracy, trigger, and economy.

After that is maybe the Beretta Neos (weird looking imo).

Smith also makes one that I just dont have much experience with.

Walther P22 well down from there. It looks kewl and tactical but no one I know has raved over its accuracy or reliability. Walther has a new gun coming out that I've seen on the wholesalers' websites but have never seen one.

In the high end you are talking the high end Walther (I dont remember the model) and the Hammerli. But these are $1k+ guns and unless someone is really serious about competitive target shooting it probably isn't worth it.

I really like the P22, I can't speak for it's accuracy. It feels pretty good, it's fun to shoot, and I've never had any problems with the ones I've shot. The only thing I don't really care for is the magazine safety, which isn't really that big of a deal for a .22 to plink with.

Pretty much my feelings on the pistol as well. My wife owns one and I sneak it out to shoot whenever I can.

I should have mentioned the Browning Buckmark, the first gun I ever bought. It was right in there with the Ruger I guess. Mine has had some maintenance/repair issues over the years.

I started shooting my 22a when I was 13 and have loved it since the first day. My sister has a buckmark and it too is a nice gun. I like my 22a better though. i think it is really going to depend on what you are planning to use the gun for. Ours were bought for 4-h competition.

Pokey, my opinion is to get a Ruger mk2. You will never talk Boom out of that S&W.

I am not sure about a Mk3. If I was going to get one I think I would get the Ruger Mk1 if I could find a nice one used. But I think the heavier barrel, like the one Boom shoots is more accurate. I am just old school and like the original better.

i think your right about getting that one from boom...i told him on the ride home yesterday from the shoot that i wasnt going to give up...

i really like the rugers...i really want something with the longer, heavier barrel for accuracy...i know the sig mosquito that aaron had up there is not as accurate as the longer barrels but still a good shootin gun...

That they do!! It seems whatever savings can be had by shotting .22 out of a cool gun are negated by the grossly inflated price the guns bring these days!

I've got a P22 and it was great the first year, then about the 30,000 round mark the hammer broke (not the spring, THE HAMMER) which S&W replaced, but now it's not cycling 60% of the time, I'm sure due to worn out springs. I just haven't gotten around to ordering new springs. You can also get a nifty laser to go on the P22 for $90-100. makes it fun to shoot, especially for first timers. Not terribly accurate, but not terribly bad either.

OK...I found a Browning Buckmard Camper....camo color for 250...is that good? I have looked it up on various sites and some of them say they go for around 260, 270....but those sites are sites that i've never heard of....

thanks for all of your help...

MSRP is $300. Impact has them at $259 and there is a NIB on GB with a buy it now price of $250. So if that is new, that’s a fair price.

Academy Sports has them in the stainless model for $279.00

Browning Buckmark would be my first pick, after shooting several in comparison with the Ruger and S&W rimfire semi-autos I've owned.

Hey guys...I've got the Browning borrowed this weekend. Seems to be in great shape...has only 50 rounds put through it...no scratches or wear that I can see...I think I'm going with this one...:D

Thanks to all for your help and opinions and maybe we'll see you all at the next East TN shoot...

Thanks again...
