So, picked up a new (to me and unfired) MAK 90 sporter rifle today, with thumbhole stock, 2 30-rd mags, 1 10-rd mags, and a 75 round drum, and box, sling, cleaning kit.

I am looking for replacement stock options for this gun, as well as any other accessories. Also, what are the best mags for it? Any other suggestions. Can't wait to use my newest fun addition to my collection.

:)

Any (German, Romanian, Chinese, Yugoslavian, Hungarian, etc) ordinary mil-surplus mag will work, and they are the best, and cheapest. You can pick up Chinese mags on gunbroker.com, and elsewhere, if you look. You can also get extra 5-round Chinese mags. I stuck with Chinese mags.

If you want to stay 922r compliant, for shooting, just leave it alone. I like mine "as is."

But if you are determined to change the stock, you should remove the stock to see if the rear of the receiver goes at a slant, or if it is "squared away." The slant-cut receiver needs the Ironwood replacement. If your receiver looks cut at a 90 degree angle, you have more options.

Congrats on getting the MAK-90. It is a superior AK to most other brands.

You will find a lot of info and links to info here:

Nice - the Maks are some of the best ever imported. I'd go with a new stock, surplus mags (cheaper than dirt has them), a sling, and plenty of 7.62x39. All of my efforts to scope an AK have been fruitless. It's a great gun, best with iron sights I think. The MAK-90s are great AKs.

Thanks for all of this information everyone. I picked up plenty of ammo yesterday to get started with, some extra mags, etc. I have a feeling that this is going to be one fun gun to shoot.

They are fun to shoot, I've shot probably 5K rounds out of mine and not had one single malfunction. It's decently accurate at it's range and not much recoil.

One of the very few things the Chineese build that is reliable! But previous posts are correct. Monkey with the stock and you have to start replacing 4 or 5 parts with US. That is the dumbest law Ive have ever seen! G Bush 1 is the daddy of that. Thanks, Jack
